#15064, "Leaking headgasket... Price from shop seems outrageous.."

My father has been taking the families cars here for awhile and i have always thought their prices were a little high.
before i was just getting my timing belt changed which was going to be around 450 dollars... which i thought was fine.
Now i knew i was leaking some oil so i told them to check it out
turns out they say the headgasket is leaking and its now gonna be around 1200-1300 dollars for everything
isnt that a bit high?
any suggestions?

Go back to the shop after they put the crack pipe away. Man you'd be getting screwed. Headgaskets aren't real hard, just a little time consuming. Make sure that the gasket is blown first. ALOT of shops will jump to conclusions w/o properly testing when it comes to headgaskets. Ask them if they plan to use some lube or something before they were going to give you that kind of est???

Shit is all apart. Typical...

I think that's about right, if not cheaper. My friend who has a 97 Stratus had a headgasket leak, and they charged his ass 1800. Thank god for aftermarket warranties!!!!!!!

when the headgasket went out in my old RS I took it to misubishi because I had a warranty. They told me if not for the warranty it would have cost me 900 bucks.

call chrysler and open a case about a bad headgasket, this problem is well known and they usually either replace it for free or something like a 200 deductable, call them now, even if they say no it was worth a try, but everyone that i know that has done this has had it taken care of, they quoted me 1200 bucks at the dealership too. but called chrysler and got it taken care of for 200 bucks.

first off...when they put the head gaskets on our cars they used a fiber one. which go out. the whole process takes about a week. by chance they might have to fix the head incase of it being warped. the new gaskets are made of metal, and will not leak....so they say. they always leak in the same spot which is above the oil sending unit. fortunately for me, i am only paying 150 for replacement, a 3 angle valve job, and porting of the head and intake manifold. emoji
eat that one guys. lol

my head gasket was leaking and they also wanted to change my timing belt and water pump, all these parts plus labor added up to $960 for me.
