Well a few weeks ago my engine developed a sort of knocking noise. I was sure that it was a lifter as was all the local machine shops and engine guroos. So I replaced them with the pt style lifters from howell. Got it back together. started it up. TICK TICK TICK.......... Man was I pissed. SO I said screw it I will just drive it. well a few days later I got to thinking this could be bad, and decided to take the engine out. got it out and apart and found the number one cylinder had a broken primary compression ring. And the side of my JE piston was sort of scared up. I am wondering if I can buy just one piston. JE 9:1 compression? I also will need a set of rings what would you guys recomend? also I bought an engine off of ebay and was wondering if I should swap the head out with my gude head. I know that that would be a major walk backwards but my cam bearings or whatever you will call them. they are sort of scared up. What should I do?

Are you turbo or not? I doubt you went with JE's in a 9:1 to be non turbo. I am sure the gude head and cams are profiled for a non turbo configuration so it MIGHT be worth considering. Is the head shaved at all to raise compression?

Yeah the head is shaved. And The pistons are 9:1 due to the fact that I was planing on turboing for sure, just a money issue. I always seem to have problems when I get money for a turbo. I want to go HRC stage 2 with FMIC.
