Hell Yeah!!! Pooperchips wants $800 just to remove the redline!!!! And who knows if this would even work!!! Come on Howell Auto! Some of us don't want to get power from turbo, we want to go ALL MOTOR and 7200 RPM is KILLING our chances of having some killer ALL MOTOR 2GNT BEASTS!!!!! }> }> }> }> We know you can do it! Look you gave the 420A Neon ECUs why not US! What is the problem, what is keeping this from happening? Please respond to this post if you would purchase an AFX ECU if it was available.

And can you get rid of that pesky "can only retard timing x amount" and the "can only adjust fuel trim +/-25%". That'd make the whole package even sweater.

Here's newbie penny, Why isn't there a AFX ECU for the Auto trannys guys Mmmm ???? The MTX is only like a few seconds quicker Yay,

There's some good writeups here for atx guys the Neon 3.55 gear wiki etc.. If was going to do these I would like have an ECU like the AFX ECU. If I'm wrong about this please forgive me.

But seriously if it really came down to it, I would swap out my 420a for an SRT-4 motor hehe... kidding just wanna Fluff up some feathers abit. Why has anyone done this Type of swap, displacement is about the same.

The funny thing is that the Neon ECU has the exact same pin configuration as we do. I'm sure the internal programming is somewhat different, but then again...how much and maybe not? (why doesn't someone just hook it up and see what happens?) Not only have I seen the pin comparison, if you look at S-AFC help pages for both cars, they're exactly the same directions with, again the pins in the same spots. So as far as your concern, Kyle, regarding a cut and solder situation...not neccessary! emoji

One other thing, the neons come stock with 19lb. injectors while our cars come with 235 cc injectors (22.4 lbs). Why do we have bigger injectors with less HP? Is that just becuase the neon runs leaner and that's where much of the HP is made? (I think that's why neons tend to have MUCH more fuel leaning out problems than we do when boosted- it's almost an automatic thing for them to get bigger injectors right away)

Well my Fiance drives a 97 SOHC neon. I might give her a look and find out. DOHC and SOHC use the same TYPE but different programming. I'll try to hunt down a Digital camera too.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

I would HIGHLY advice against going over the stock redline on our engines and transmission UNLESS you have built transmission and complete drivetrain built for it (i.e. balanced bottom end, etc etc). Look at me, i completely EXPLODED the stock clutch/flywheel from launching at the track at such high rpm (around 5-6k). Keep on doing that, you'll be sure to find yourself with a blown transmission...

my .002 cents.

I'm more interested in having an ECU that has the capability of modified fuel/ignition map, egr code removal, etc than having the 7k redline removed. I mean, come on, if you are not making power by then, why do you think you are going to make power over 7k? (unless you are spending some MAJOR $$$ doing development of head flow/etc to make power in the 7k range, redoing your WHOLE drivetrain to handle over 7k rpm levels, etc. Most of us here probably will NEVER spend that amount of cash to get there).

again, my .02 cents, flame at me if you will...

I think Kiku is right. You just can't raise the rev limiter and expect miracles to happen and have a sudden 30HP increase. After 7200 rpms who knows how much the torque curve will drop off? The engine/powrtrain isn't supposed to go higher than that (the valve springs aren't supposed to go to a higher RPM than that), so major $$ would have to be spent to improve the engine/tranny internals to handle it, and the vast majority of people are NOT going to do this.

If you were building an all motor drag racing only car, then that would be a different story. But again, who is going to do this??? How amny people will have the will or the money to pay for the internal upgrades?

An ecu with fuel/ignition maps changes would be FAR more valuable.

As you all already know, with the SAFC we can do anything we want with the fuel map (with some tuning, which people have already started to do in a systematic way, if you've been paying attention to my posts!)

But, we have next to nothing so far for modifying the ignition timing map. It's still up in the air if the Apexi ITC will even work. (A bunch of us are still working on it.)

I think there are significant gains to be made from timing advance (I've only seen 23 degrees advance at WOT so far). Having an aftermarket ECU modification would be EXACTLY the tuning step our cars need next. Run some higer octane gas, run more timing advance, and just keep it from knocking and we'll see more power.

Of course you do armond - you have a bulletproof engine =)

good to see that i'm not looney and not thinking straight about revving our engines over 7k rpm.....

Yeah yeah I'm on tranny #4 or 5, when its time to blow they are going to blow. You dont need a rev increase to do what you did, that might happen anyway but thats not gonna happen winding out 2nd a little further or to keep from having to switch into 4th gear. You dont have to be abusive to run past 7000rpms. used tranny's are $500 a pop, they always last me at least a yr. $500/yr I can deal with. Crashing into my rev limiter at WOT with 10lbs of boost 3 or 4 times a week was a little more discerning. Rods are the only real concern with revving to 8000rpms or so. After that you'll have to worry about valve springs but if your revving that high you probably already have them with cams. I only want 7500-7800rpms.

EDIT: If the clutch/flywheel exploding caused your tranny failure thats an easy fix.

Your tranny is a freak. The revs do not kill a tranny, power does or force in general. My car runs 20psi pump gas and it holds together. I want an 82000 rev limit as well. If the head blows, I will rebuild it stronger. I hit redline and bounce off that bastard all the time. Ask Armond about passing cars at 18psi bouncing off the limiter with oncoming traffic emoji

Yes, I think the Neon's run leaner, I will get a backfire from my intake every so often on my Neon when on the gas under certain situations, which means she running lean. My Neon is a 95 and Eclipse is 97, so I don't know that everything is compatible... Maybe if I'm feeling adventuresome one day I'll see if it will plug in and see what happens... Unless somebody has a 95 Eclipse around Chicago and feels like some experimentation...

Hell I have my S-AFC leaned out 6 to 7% and still think I'm too rich, I just haven't gone out for some tuning in the snow.

Hey!! Whats that supposed to mean Mike?!?
My car is a 96. Gregs is a 95 but he isn't much for experimentation. What could possibly happen if they aren't compatible? If the results arent too bad, I'll do it. Mike is your neon stick or auto? I don't think auto/manuals are compatible. Maybe we should check a few junk yards Mike.

The difference is OBD-I vs. OBD-II, the pin outs are slightly different between the two.

Ok, seriously, Howell will not reply. It's all about the $$$$ to them. They won't spend any money at all to do the R&D to make a few ECU's for us guys on 2gnt. They already make enough off of other car parts and fact is, they just don't care. They probably didn't make anything off of the 97 ecu's to care about the other years. I believe their advertising for the 97 AFX just sucked and that's why they didn't sell. Not to mention you have to wait a frickin year to get one, and now you have to basically give your first born to afford it. No offense though, just my .02 emoji
