There are two part numbers for this pipe and I was just wondering if the newer style is an updated design that will still work ether 420A's that have the earlier version of the pipe. The reason I'm asking is the fact that my pipe is severely rusted and I found a waterpump inlet pipe off a 98 in great shape. Before I remove the pipe and risk breaking it, I just want to make sure the pipes are interchangeable.

Technically, there are 2 part numbers through CAPS. For early 95 models to mid 96, and then the latter 96 and up. I don't think there is a difference between the 2, just quirks of Mitsu/Chrysler's part number system.

No difference I am aware of. There are tons of things like that in CAPS, one part number for early 95 and a different part number for 96 and up.

That's good to know. I started questioning it when I went to Autozone and they had two different gaskets for the tube, one just like a regular o-ring and one that looked like an o-ring with a tiny additional o-ring molded to it.
