Here is the problem I am having. Since going turbo my car has been overheating. First I checked the thermostat, there wasn't one so I threw in a 180 thermostat. Still overheating, so I checked to see if my fans work properly and they do. Recently I did a whole timing overhaul (Crower 2's, springs/retainers, gates belt, mech. tensioner, water pump, flush and new fluids)and it still is overheating.

Here's what happens, idle the car is fine never gets near halfway. Once I start to move from a stop light or rev in will go up to about 3/4 sometimes as far as 7/8...But when cruising for a minute or so it will come back down to half until I stop at a light again and it continues.

Has anyone ever heard or experienced this? I checked through search and couldn't find anything like what I am experiencing. Any input or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I notice our cars do not have much room for airflow to the radiator with an IC in the way, I don't know if this could be a problem.

Did you burp the system?

Last of a dying breed...

No such thing as a 140* thermostat.... And I agree, sounds like you have an air bubble moving around in the system.

180* Typo.

I burped it after we flushed it, but I can try it again to see if that is it. Or maybe vacuum it.

i had a similar problem with a honda motor after a complete swap. there were two smaller hoses, one went to the heater core I believe, the other was some sort of water pump bypass hose.....anyways, very easy to mix up the way they were in there, and the car ran fine with them backwards, but it would do just what you are talking about. Kinda like part of the system was piped wrong so the majority of it was circulating, thus not a full-on overheating, but the small loop being backwards was enough at low rpms like idle or in town stop and go that it would cause it to creep up until you got rolling good. Double checked the routing and found it and swapped them and all was good.

long sentence i know....lol
