My power steering pump has been squeally ever since I got my car back from getting the new engine installed. Additionally, P/S fluid would bubble out of the resevoir when the motor was running. I thought this may be due to overfilling and the system working out all the bubbles after re-filling the system.

Then, it stopped squealing for no apparent reason. So, I checked the resevoir again and it was low. I proceeded to re-fill the resevoir to the recommended level and as soon as I added fluid the pump starting making the awful squealling again! What would this be caused from? If anything, I thought additional fluid would result in less squealing. Bad pump?

On another note, I have a strong suspicion that the mechanic swapping my engines added brake fluid into the P/S resevoir. I can't confirm this, but I think I will drain as much P/S fluid as I can and try to refill it with P/S fluid.

Any ideas?

Is it possibly the bearing itself?

It's possible, although unless I am certain I would like to try avoiding purchasing another pump. I'm just stumped why it gets quiet when there is less fluid vs. more fluid circulating in the system.

If I can't figure it out, I will resort to buying another pump...

Delete the P/S, free up HP! =). I know Lukas makes an additive to help eliminate squeaks in the PS system, never used it, but I do enjoy there oil additive. Although cheapest easiest method would be to find a part out and grab there P/S pump.

You should drain it and use what the is recommended to be put in the pump. If you look in the user manual or a Haynes book it will say to use Dextron II or higher automatic transmission fluid to fill the pump. I'm not sure if the use of power steering fluid would hurt the pump but you should always use what is recommended by the manufacture.

If you do need a pump talk to Miller Import Parts the prices are pretty fair and is fast to ship.
