#136206, "ignition systems for retard timing via RPM and not Boost"

Hello
I am looking for some suggestions on ignition systems that can retard timing via RPM not Boost. This is for a customer of ours and we where wanting to know what everyone is using now a days. This car is a Eclipse 420a with a Hahn s20g system. pricing and parts# would help greatly. Thanks you very much.

This is kind of confusing me here.. you mean he is not running boost but wants to retard the timing? Interesting, makes me want to wonder why, a piggyback should be able to do this just a standard apexi SAFC, or could go with the megasquirt option.

SAFC is an Air Flow Converter - meaning that it only alters the signal interpretation of the air flow for the ECU. There is no timing control available.

Most people running built motors are running megasquirt. A few choose to run portfueler still but that has no ignition control. To control ignition off the stock ECU the MSD DIS2 system is about the only option.

Having never used one Im not sure if you can retard timing based on rpm or not. Im not really sure why you would even want to do that...

yes the car is seeing boost. But my boss would like to tune using an ignition system that we can retard timing based on RPM and NOT BOOST pressure. if anyone know of an ignitions system that can allow us to do so a price and a part# would be awesome. thanks

Did you even read my last post. I gave you the name of 2 systems that you can use. I am not going to look up the part number or the price for you. You can goggle that and find it in 5 seconds. And then you must do a little digging to figure out if its what you want or not.

Again, pulling timing based on rpm is a foolish way of tuning. You can drive the entire rpm range in no boost if you stay off the throttle so why would you pull timing in the high rpms with hardly any load on the engine. You need to pull timing base on rpm and boost pressure to get the best performance/drivability out of that motor.

Oops that was not a reply to your post, and thanks for your info. I do understand why using boost pressure would be preferred , but my boss Bill Hahn jr. asked me to put this question out there. He has his reasons for this style ignition tuner. I'm just trying to get him answers. Thanks for your post.
