Hi,

The above thread is locked. Since I am the person whose products and copywrited material they are copying I think a chance to respond is fair.

I guess I can not get too upset because that is how some people get through life and then offer a religious blessing as well in their Ebay ad. Wow.

It is hard to count how many generations of design have followed this. I am one of those strange people that continually tries to make the product better. It is not just talk, I have thousands of designs for hundreds of motors to back it up.

About four years ago I did a 420a scraper for a 2.2 Callies crank. Three times I redid the pattern for the customer. Conservatively, thousands of dollars worth of my time. It was a one-off (no other sales of the pattern during that interim).

I spoke with someone today interested in the Callies pattern but they did not not want to spend all that money on the Teflon pattern that was developed ($179.95). I told him that to redesign the pattern for a steel scraper would cost me more in time than I was charging. I already know how limited the market is.

So, I will toss out a challenge. Instead of simply copying a design, violating copyright laws with my advertising, etc. why doesn't this manufacturer make the effort to develop JUST ONE design on their own and adjust the product to fit the Callies 2.2 crank which they can then offer for $35.00 shipped.

I have been asked many times to copy people's products -- I made an exception. I copied Studebakers Type R windage tray because it had been out of production for decades. And then I improved it. And then I made the first improved one at no charge for an Avanti Bonneville team along with a custom scraper.

So, step up. Make some effort. Don't go through life as a parasite.

As someone that does believe in God, I dislike it when people profit from deliberately evil acts.

Here is a dxf file of a more advanced 420a pattern. It has drain holes and reliefs for main studs. You can take this file to any metal working jobshop and have them cut it out for you. Use 14g steel (~2mm or .080" thickness). Good luck with your engine projects.

Kevin

As the link to the aforementioned thread appears to have been truncated at some point, I can't determine exactly what you're replying to.

If it is the thread I believe it to be, I'll offer no defense as I am not the seller, but I will bring it to his attention so he can respond.

For what its worth, I don't believe his part is an angle-for-angle copy of yours, Kevin, but I fully understand your concern for your copyright. I also don't know that for a fact.

His Ebay ad in November was quite explicit in calling it a copy of our product at a cheaper price. In the pdf in the above thread he lifted copyrighted written material as well as artwork. Ebay ended this ad because of that under their Vero program. He then went through the ad and removed the copyrighted material:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ECLIPSE-2G-TALON-NEON-ENGINE-NON-TURBO-MOTOR-420A-OIL-PAN-CRANK-SCRAPER-/130633283194?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item1e6a59b67a

I was willing to let it go until he relisted and then the Callies customer mentioned that the scrapers were available so much cheaper elsewhere. I am not sure how much more blatant you could be. Very disappointing.

Just copy and paste.

By the way, Cosworth Engineering used the pics too until they got tired of me saying what an endorsement of my products it was and/or their legal department got wind of it.

You're right, that is disappointing. I would have expected better of our users than blatant theft.

Would you like me to leave the infringing materials up and available for your pending copyright litigation, or remove them from the site? Just let me know.

Please just remove them. I do not have a problem if people materially change and improve products. I hope he is willing to take up the challenge. There is a lot to be learned by actually thinking and doing instead of just copying.

Sorry for the rant.
