#135612, "95 Eclipse RS rough idle "

So i just bought a 95 Eclipse RS last week and im having a few small problems. I hope small. Once the car warms up it has what sounds like a miss. I changed the plugs, wires, and coil and still no help. I had one code which was a speed sensor i believe. Car drives pretty good most of the time. Sometimes it has a slight jerking while cruising around. Might have to take it to a mechanic soon. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Any modifications? Pull the OBDII trouble codes, cross reference them at http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/, and let us know so we can give you some suggestions.

Also, any modifications to the car?

How many miles? Prior maintenance?

The car has 170000 miles on it. Guy i bought it from said the motor was rebuilt at 130000 miles. One cylinder was scarred so they bored it .020 i believe and replaced all piston, rings, rods, rod bearings. The head had all the valves and seals replaced. I took it to oreillys and the only code it pulled was a speed sensor. I dont know if that would cause the motor to miss. The guy from oreillys did say that it sounds more like a lope, he thought it could be bad gas. I did just take the exhaust manifold cover off and noticed it has a few cracks in it also.

I'll be honest, it kinda sounds like the first signs of a dying ECU. I would suggest checking the resistance on the ignition coil and pulling the plugs to see if they're good first.

I did change the plugs. I will check them again when i get home. I dont have a multimeter to check the resistance. Is there a better aftermarket ecu that i can swap with? I think im going to take it to a mechanic tomorrow and see if they can check it out.

This could be a fuel problem as well, have the fuel pressure checked, it should be around 50psi, next I would do is take out the valves, clean them with throttle body cleaner and blow them out with compressed air. See if that helps, I had this problem with mine, it started off slow, I'd clean them and it became more frequent, it ended up being a rotted out filler tube.

Give the fuel pressure a try and then the injectors. And yes their is an aftermarket ecu. I can't remember the exact name of it, but i don't know exactly what it does or if it's even legit

Edit, I'm pretty sure it's Howell automotive af/x or something like that

Yup, that's it. Great ECU for performance, but I can't remember if they made a 95 version or not. I think they only had the 97 ECU. Besides, Howell has the WORST customer service EVER.

Personally I'd see if I could get my hands on a known good loaner ECU from someone else. But go through all the normal checks to make sure it's not something simple first. No sense in throwing money at a problem and hoping that it'll go away.

Ok so now i its getting worse. I took it around the block yesterday and it killed on me at a stop. I had to give it gas to keep it idling. So when i took off from the stop my car started jerking hard around 3500 rpm. 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. When i pulled up in my driveway it went back to idling rough again but didnt kill. I did notice that the screw that holds the plug in the ecu is broke and i cant screw the plug in. Is it possible to upload a video so i can show what its doing?

so i finally found out what is wrong. i took the throttle body off and cleaned it, and cleaned the IAC. so today i replaced the IAC and camshaft pos sensor and it threw a code. well the code was for timing belt jumped a tooth or more. so now it looks like i have to take it to a mechanic and have it worked on. thank all of you for your help.

Much appreciated!
