#135567, "98 RS 420a head gasket blown"

ok guys im new here and was wandering if maybe you guys could steer me in the right direction here. I already know about the infamous 420a bad head gasket issue. Mine has that issue as I type this, and im getting ready to park it for a few days and tear it down to fix the head gasket. My question is what gasket kit and head bolts would you guys recommend? Keep in mind this is an all factory car used as an every day driver. thanks guys emoji

I used a felpro headgasket. I am yet to have a problem and seems like a great headgasket. As for the headbolts you could use ARP, but if you plan on keeping it stock I would look on ebay for a factory set. Up to you if you want to spend the money on the ARP. You may be able to reuse the ones you have (although i do not recomend it unless they are 100% in spec and not stretched).

Pick up some new TTY (torque to yield) or buck up and grab some ARP studs. Your choice.

if there is indeed no performance ever coming this cars way then get a $40 MLS headgasket from ebay and some $20 headbolts to match.

I've got one still running 5yrs strong. just make sure to invest in getting the head pressure checked and also checked for flatness. It will help whatever gasket you choose mate its very best, and the pressure test will ensure the valves are sealing correctly.

On my race car I would like to add, I run a Cometic gasket $100 and ARP head studs $120

So build to your goals and/or budget

The screen name says it all

At least you can use the arp studs over a few head jobs, that's a bonus
