i've done alot of reading up on this
first let me say that what you see in the video is not actually a PCV valve, it's just a generic one way check valve. With that said, lemme elaborate on my findings.
1. with both sides capped off (IM and VC), it smokes alot and idles normally 2. with generic one way check valve, it doesnt smoke AT ALL, idles higher than normal (1.6k), and the side VC nipple has ALOT of vacuum coming from it - almost like an open hose 3. with PCV installed, it smokes as bad as if both IM and VC were capped, and idles fine. Side VC nipple has no vacuum.
based on what i've read and what I stated above, I'm leaning towards worn valve guides and/or seals. I say this because over a long period of time, I was unaware that my crankcase evac system was pressurizing my top end (which should have been the opposite). I believe over time, the seals took their abuse but finally have given way.
I also think the reason why there's no smoke at idle or driving with the generic one way check valve is because the diameter/orifice of the valve is large enough to create additional vacuum to help "draw back" the oil that normally would've fallen into the combustion chamber with a normal PCV valve.
I'll be running some tests to narrow down the culprit, but as of now those are my findings. I have a few things i'm going to try, one of which is to remove the turbo to rule out oil bearing leak possibilities.
to answer your question eric, i've read running both (PCV and check valve) is a no-no, but i don't have the link from AGP that says so - it's on my home computer.
