#134186, "High idle, drops with throttle blip"

What would cause a high idle (2-3k) that drops down to normal if I blip the throttle? Been happening more frequently when I'm at a stop or coasting. It always goes away with a throttle blip. My mileage has also been crappier than usual.

TIA

-marc

Start with checking throttle cable.

Ive had that problem. You can tell if thats it if when it happens, put your foot UNDER the pedal and pull. If it idles down, its either a sticking throttle plate or cable is too tight.

Could also be a malfunctioning or dirty IAC. I had a similar issue in the past and after pulling the IAC, thoroughly cleaning it, and reinstalling, the issue was gone.

what bullett said. start by adjusting your throttle cable and lubricate the TB anywhere that affects butterfly operation. if that doesnt work, try what jess said

Ive got this same issue but it only happens when my AC is on.

usually a throttle blip or if I wiggle the shifter (my car before i bought it was changed to a manual) solves the issue.

I had idle issues after having the block bored out and having the head ported with bigger valves, high flow intake mani and a 60mm TB. No mattter what I tried, the idle would never be as good as it once was stock. Fortunately modernperformance.com sells a manual adjuster that completely replaces the stock Idle air control valve. Its basically an idle screw in a custom billet mount. You unplug the wiring and leave it unplugged and it does not throw a CEL either. I made a youtube video with it on my car showing it idle smooth you can check out here. Hope this helps!
