Hey guys, I have a kinda ####ish question. Long story short (the long story is below, sorry I'm kinda wordy) my car had blue smoke so i figured id start diagnostics by replacing the PCV valve. Although, I'm not sure which hose is the PCV valve. I included a picture with the 2 hoses that are connected to the intake. I am fairly sure the PCV valve is the one connected to the intake manifold, but I don't know what the other one is. Here is a picture with the two circled. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1601413&l=50b20f7f4a&id=1611069090
Now for the story time. The other day I was accelerating hard out of a bend and up a hill, and i noticed behind me was a trail of blueish smoke. I didn't lose any power, it just started smoking. Luckily I was a minute from my house so i pulled in my driveway and it was still smoking. I let the car idle for a minute or so, and the smoke faded out. So i hopped online and did some research. I am not sure if its something major like either rings or a head gasket, or something simple like a pcv valve.
So I figured start small with the pcv valve and work my way up. Well when I took a look under the hood, I noticed there was oil dripping out of my air filter. I then realized my air filter was HORRIBLY dirty. So I thought maybe the filter was so dirty, I was attempting to suck air through my pcv valve, causing it to suck oil which then dripped down to my filter. Which then lead me to my originial question.

okay i dont really know why oil would be coming out of your filter, someone will eventually come on and explain haha, but i do know the pcv valve is the hose on the left that connects to the Intake Manifold. Now the only explanation i could think of for oil coming out your filter is...actually it doesnt make any sense, the only thing connected to it is the breather hose with sucks in air, so that can't be it, and the only other input is through the Intake manifold, now why would oil come back up, also impossible, i think the oil is either not oil or not relavent to the blue smoke. blue smoke usually means bad headgasket, so i recommend you get your cylinders compression tested which someone on here will ask for anyway!! How many miles are on the car? If it has more than 100k with a factory (Stock) head gasket then most likly its the headgasket!
P.S - you have a very clean, great looking engine bay!!

If your PCV valve is clogged and not operating correctly, it can cause excessive amounts of oil to be pushed through your breather line and into the intake. Pull off the upper hose that connects to the IM and change the PCV valve. You can get a new one for a few bucks from any autoparts store.
While you are at it, make sure to thoroughly clean and re-oil your air filter. Get a cleaning kit from your local autoparts store when you get the new PCV valve.
That being said, it sounds like there was quite a bit of oil coming out of your filter. While this may be caused by a faulty PCV valve, I am inclined to say it may be a sign of more serious internal problems. A cracked ringland, blown rings, or other compression related issues can cause excessive blowby and result in issues like you are having. I recommend you have a compression test done.

Well I cleaned my filter, and it seems to smoke less than before. Ive always had a real light smoke since I got the car, and there was actually no smoke when i started it this morning after cleaning my filter. I think that was the cause of most of my problem. Now for the PCV question. So the one connected to the IM is the PCV valve, and the one from the valve cover to the intake is the breather hose? Now should my breather hose have pressure or a vaccume, because I took it off and there was pressure. Im changing my PCV valve after school today just for extra assureance. Also, im going to get it pressure tested as well to check my rings.
Hopefully if it is something major, its the lower end. I just got a used block and was planning on getting forged internals anyway. This motor just has to last untill i can get the funds. It seems to be better though, and it feels like the car can breathe better as well.

With stock PCV and breather systems, acceleration during a hard corner can cause oil to be sucked into the intake system, causing smoke. I did it once or twice back when my car was still stock. Nothing to worry about.

Okay, that reassures me a little bit, but i just did some more diagnostics. When i take off either the PCV hose or the breather hose, they both blow smoke and what seems like some oil. Out of the breather hose, it seems to be straight oil and only a mist, but in the PCV hose, there is a white milky fluid (my guess is coolant and oil) and its more of a squirt when i rev the engine. This leads me to believe the worst case scenario, i have both blowby and a headgasket leak. Anyone else have comments on this? I think it's looking like i'm just going to have to rebuild.

Rebuild time! Hopefully with pictures Yeah when coolant got into my crankcase it spun all the bearings. Not saying that it's happen to you yet but IMO now would be a great time for your build... with pics.

Ughhh, great. Oh well, at least its still driveable for now. Also, that picture is not my engine bay, i had to get one offline because it was too dark to take my own.

Yeap, that sounds like a headgasket. Do a compression test.

The frothy white mixture you are seeing in the PCV tube is not necessarily a sign of a problem. I get some of that in my catch can, and always have.
However, if you are saying that when both the breather hose and the PCV hose are removed with the engine running you feel pressure and oil coming out of them, I would definitely have to say you have a compression issue. Get the test done and report back with your numbers.

Got some new info that is kinda strange. My car smokes a little during idle, but really only smokes heavily during a hard right turn. Dark one said this is normal, but is there any way to fix it?

technically, thats not "normal", but i think you should just get it compression tested first, it will save you a whole lot of time and headache!!

If you're consistently smoking heavily on a hard right turn, that's not normal. Do a compression test like I told you.
