I just finished my build 1300 miles ago and I have an oil leak that seems to be coming from the oil pump. I think. I dont understand it though because I did everything exactly how I was supposed to. I know things just happen... but I cant see the leak it self which is why I am assumeing that it's coming from there. I used anerobic sealant on the bed plate and made sure that the o-ring was put in, the o-ring between the block and oil filter housing was replaced as well, and the crank sensor is new and o-ring acounted for. Now, I found Corbins write-up about a proper 420a build "after" I built mine. On his oil pump, he shows to be using anerobic sealer on it. The Haynes manual did not show that nor say anything about any sealant except the area where it meets together with the block and says to put RTV sealer there befor the oil pan gasket goes on. So I thought since there was no gasket then I have to do something so I used a thin coat of RTV sealant on the oil pump and now I think i made a mistake.
I guess what I'm looking for here is conformation that its the oil pump. I'm losing a qt. every 700 miles. Thats not good and not to mention the side of my car looks like crap. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I think I'm about to break it back down and pull the oil pump and put the anerobic sealant on there. I just dont know what else it could be.

There's an o-ring between the oil pump and block as well. Did you forget it?

No I didnt forget that o-ring either. I guess I will break it down tomorrow and put anerobic sealant on the pump. I'm going to try and do it without pulling the motor.

Theres a couple o-rings. You can pull it with the engine still it but it is a B***h! I would check all the o-rings are there and put the sealer on. as said above.
What wouldn't hurt either is to clean it up the best you can and see if you can find where the leak is coming from.

ok update. Tore into the motor and found a bad exhaust cam seal. Looks like I didnt lube it enough when I put it in. It folded on me hence the leak. Now... The oil pump however is not leaking and as stated above I didnt use anerobic sealant on it, I used RTV. I didnt take it back off when I replaced the cam seal. My question is should I have? Am I going to have a leak soon or do you think I'll be ok? I will be starting on putting the turbo on right after Christmas. Am I looking at problems soon?

It'll be fine. I've used both anaerobic and RTV on different builds, and haven't had an issue either way.

Exactly. If RTV seals from the start it will usually hold just fine. you'll notice the leak right away if it's not going to hold

A little update. Thanks for all your info. Come to find out it was the intake cam seal. It folded on me when I put it in but I didn't see it. But no leaks now. the RTV sealant on the oil pump is holding fine. Well now its time to start buying turbo parts. I have searched for the last year for this but I still have some searching and learning to do. I just want to make sure I dont blow this new motor. So off I go to start my list.
