This winter I will be looking into pistons and rods for my car. I talked to bullett about this a little at the shootout, but I think Im set on 10.5:1 compression. This way, after I make my mark all motor, I can still turbocharge it if Im feeling frosty. Ive always wanted a turbo 2gnt just to show the cocky 4g guys whats up.
Anyways, Im thinking JE 10.5:1 pistons, stock bore, and eagle rods. Also saw crower rods, not sure which are more "proven". I saw a few places prices and it looks like its going to be around $900 new, anyone know a good (on price and rep) dealer to get these?

www.raceeng.com is a good site to order from. The eagles are what most people run because its a tough rod and is relatively cheap. The Crowers are a stronger rod but cost a bit more than the eagles. I'm 10.5:1 now and I love it. I had 8.8:1 and I hated the off boost throttle response.

Damn you and your budget Colby! I am personally planning on 12, maybe 12.5 in the future but my funds are about completely dry. That and it will help prevent me from turbocharging my car, despite the constant temptations.
Anyways I've delt with race engineering before when i got my cams, no problems whatsoever and some of the better prices I have seen.

With 12.5:1 you will not be able to drive on pump gas iirc. You may be able to pull some timing out of it with msns but out will negate the benefit of going with that high of compression. Now if you run e85 or race gas all the time then by all means do it. I say go for it but just wanted you to knew that 12.5:1 is a little too high for the street imo.

As a matter of fact, someone pay for the dyno time and I will put a 93 pump tune on the race car as she sits (I'm that confident).

Well if your that confident then I say go for it to the OP, but your also on a big cam I say go for it and post the results back on a 12.5:1 motor and let us know what happens

Whats funny about my budget is, I work at McDonalds..lol. Not for much longer if I have my way though. Im planning on my tax return taking care of a good deal of the cost. Ill probably check out race engineering then. Thanks guys.

No! Well I hope not, that is really the question at hand. Bullet thinks it can do it, and plans on testing it. I am hoping he can work out the kinks of it before I spend the money, and if not I want to see how high I can run it on pump gas, 11, 11.5, 12? =P Regardless that may be a year or two away.

The only way I could see using this high of a compression piston with pump gas is having a big cam to bleed off some compression. Like I said before, I run 10.5:1 CP pistons(bought from raceeng.com and had them in 2 days) and I have had my head milled at least 3 times due to rebuilds/headgasket and I run 93 with no ill effect. I would suspect I'm in the area of 11:1 compression, maybe a tad shy of it(I have no way of knowing right now because I don't remember how much was taken off the head each time) but it feels good. I would say go for the 12.5:1 and just get a cam with a decent amount of overlap to bleed off the compression to run pump gas.
