Glad I was able to change this now due to the water pump dying.

Take a look at this thing and the junk that I found by the crank bolt area.

You did get lucky. That's pretty lucky you caught that. Also, completely jealous that you have a 97 Talon. I love those.

Yeah only downside is that it's auto and that its got drum's in the back. The drums will be upgraded soon along with the fronts.

Do you have everything you need? I have enough stuff kicking around to convert two cars to rear disc brakes. Just need to box everything up when I have time.

Yeah, I should have everything (hopefully)

I would have been doing that upgrade now if I had not run into the water pump/timing belt issue recently. go figure.

Now the next question is when was the belt changed? 60k? If so then you may have a cause for concern - defective part or impurity in the belt.

If this is the car's first timing belt service all you get is "I told you so!" It is not something to put off. Hell it is not something to go the full service interval on. I change mine early.

Since he's not the original owner, the only assumption given the condition of that belt is that it's got the whole 90K on it.

Good thing you caught it when you did, that belt clearly wouldn't have lasted another 5k.

I think I'm the 4th owner, so I got to it as soon as I could. The belt looks like the factory belt as I found a Chrysler logo and gate branding on it and it makes sense.

Car is still not all back together though. I stripped the longer bolt to get the pulley back on and need to get another and a better impact wrench. Fun stuff, fun stuff.

i changed mine for the first time at 120k (eww twice over recommended)but it was in better and worse shape than yours. I was missing about 4-6 teeth throughout the whole thing, but didn't have near as many frays, good catch sir, good catch.

I got my car at 63k and I'm assuming it had never been changed, and I havent done it yet either and I'm at 148k lol I either have the best luck in the world or a rip-proof timing belt.

Instead of testing that theory, i would get that changed asap =P. Might as well change the head-gasket and cams while you have it opened up already for that to!

I dunno if I would do the headgasket unless it is leaking or has issues.

Yeah I'll be changing the HG for sure, along with most everything else. Just not cams quite yet. My timing belt outlasted my head gasket haha weird.

refer to thread "97 gs build" I'll be sure to post up pics of the TB when I get it off, I wonder what mine looks like :O
