Hi guys I have a problem with a oil leak, mechanic took a look at it and said it was some sort of breather tube is missing and he can make one for me. thats a lil iffy cus Im bout to take a long roadtrip with the car. Im not sure what the tube is called to buy a factory or aftermarket one please help. heres a picture i found that i believe that is the piece thats missing. Im not a mechanic and still pretty new at this but i think its the black tube right under the dipstick tube going to the right in this picture here

Im not sure what it is but i do see a place for some kind of tube or cap its under the headers when I looked at it with the mechanic

That tube is for the coolant and is connected to the water pump. If theres oil leaking out of there, you have a problem...

Where is the oil actually leaking from, front or back?

tell your mechanic to FUCK OFF and chum money from someone else. if its leaking from somewhere under your headers, the breather is NOWHERE near there. there's not even a breather on our cars in stock form!

Source the oil leak. put oil dye in your motor, run it for a bit, the put a blacklight on it in a dim or dark area. you'll see the oil glow and you'll be able to trace it much easier. report back with your findings. GOD i hate your mechanic already

damm sorry about that forgot to say the engine was fully rebuilt engine for a turbo. about 4-5 years ago I think there was a problem with the shortblock or bottom piece of that engine so they used one from a neon. I searched around some more cuz i remembered about the neon part. Looks like the neons had a breather box or something and those were the holes.
It was covered by the mechanic years ago and now it looks like it popped off or something. I took some pictures of it just tryin to figure out how to upload them here

Shot at 2010-07-08

those are the two holes that were blocked off where there used to be a breather box from the neon.

Shot at 2010-07-08

and this is the hole thats gushin out oil.

I was wondering if its ok to block it off again or should I let him make his "breather" cap thingy or I should order a breather box for a neon.

Aha, you see what happens when you ASS-ume? Fortunately, you only made an ass of yourself emoji

Yes, that block is from a 95 neon. As much as I like that breather hole (I use it on my race engines), you should just block it off. Without all the supporting pieces (interior as well) you don't want to use it. So go ahead and have him block it off (provided of course, you have the stock Eclipse breather set-up on the valve cover - PCV valve with hose, and hose to the intake by the throttle body).

Unless you have excessive crankcase pressure, which would lead me to believe you may have a bigger problem on your hand, a high temp vacuum cap and a hose clamp should do the trick for a while. Looks like that is all that was done to the breather on the right and it is still intact.

I sure hope its not excessive crank case pressure. Well the story with the car is that it was impounded for about 4-5 years I jus recently got it back, so I hope maybe that missing cap might have been eaten by rats or mice or deteriorated for some weird reason. Cus a couple of the spark plug wires looked like they were gnawed at. Im tryin to get this car back up and running cus i would still like to slap a turbo in.

and Ebster where would I buy these vacuum caps. guess i would have to tell the mechanic not to make his breather thingy and just cap it off.

Thanks for all the help so far emoji

That's a '95 SOHC Neon block... Neat. Don't see too many of those.

You can just cap the breather hole off. No big deal.

k so I couldnt reach the mechanic in time to tell him not to make the breather tube thingy, so he made it. It still in the shop for a full tuneup atm so I couldnt test drive it. Is it mandatory that that hole is blocked off? does it affect performance of my engine now that air can go into that one hole now?

Yup^

There is also an interior piece that goes along with the stock breather box. It helps to keep the oil in the block and not splashing up toward the hole (in additon to the stock breather box set-up). You may not have that in there.

Honestly, I just used a freeze plug (and a little black RTV for good measure) to block it off.
