#130446, "Another "Car won't stay running""

I have searched for this and there is 100's of threads with this topic. I thought my particular incident could help narrow it down...

So my car has been sitting in my garage since October 2009. When it was put in the garage, it was running fine. I was starting it up monthly until around January I would say was the last time. Lazy me...

So a few days ago, I hop in, turn the key. And nothing. No clicks or anything. So jump it, and after a few minutes it fires up. No battery light or anything. Take it for a drive around the block. Still no lights or anything. Pull into my driveway and turn it off. Go to turn it back over not even 30 seconds later, and just a single click. Jump start it again, sure enough fires up eventually. Let the car run for 20 minutes in the driveway, too see if any battery lights come on or anything but no. No lights. So turn the car off only to attempt to restart it immediately....and dead.

Starter?

"Ok thanks"

I guess I was under the impression that should it be the battery, that my battery light would have turned on.

The battery light won't come on while the car is running because it's running off the alternator. The battery light is only for indicating whether or not the appropriate voltage is being supplied to the car. It doesn't validate the source of the power. Usually if you're battery light does come on, it's because the alternator wire is loose, causing it not to charge.

But yeah, anytime you leave a car parked for months without starting it, there is a good chance you'll ruin the battery.

If it can be jumped and it cranks, the starter is NOT your issue.

Battery or cables, ALWAYS

Mine did the same thing. After testing the battery, I found out that it was the terminals that needed replacing. They were horribly corroded underneath. Test the battery first, then check terminals and cables.

Terminals replaced and brand new battery. Put the battery in, lights would come out. Go to turn over and click and dead. Had too jump it too get it running. Turned off and won't start back up. Right back to my original post....

Check your grounds and battery cables. What is the resistance from your battery to your cars chassis? From chassis to engine etc...
