So I changed my clutch this weekend and while I was at it I installed a solid front mount. I also went ahead and performed the 5/8" bolt mod.
I had a feeling that it would be very difficult to line up the cross member with this new setup, and it was. I also know that the 2G's frame is somewhat flexible, and that with the car up on jack stands it would make it even more difficult. No matter what order I tried putting the bolts in, and no matter how loose I kept them to allow for more movement, the best I could do was the front two bolts, the two bolts on the mount, and the last bolt. I was not able to get the second to last bolt in as it did not line up.
My question is, do you think I am ok to run it like this, or should I take steps to try and get this bolt in? I was thinking that I could either drill out the hole on the cross member, or I could try jacking up the car at a different point on the frame and hope it flexes in such a way to allow the bolt to go in.

i have the exact mount and also had difficulty. I made the hole bigger where you slide in the bolt and forced it in. Not sure if it effected things negatively cuz i still have a bit of wheel hopp

place the car on jack stands and use the jack to tilt the motor. Drilling the hole out so you can put the bolt in with no effort will only allow the motor to slop around in the bolt hole and do you no good. If that was going to be your way of bandaiding it then you shouldnt have put the 5/8 bolt in it.

Nope, put this mount on 4 different vehicles (some multiple times, lol) with no problems. I bolt the U-shaped "housing" onto the tranny case, tight. then the two bottom bolts (through the crossmember) I put on but don't tighten all the way down. Then push the bolt through (may take a little line up punch to push through). Then tighten down the bottom screws and the cross bolt.

I'm telling you Mark, I could not for the life of me get them to all line up no matter how I tried.
I am going to try jacking the car up at a different point on the frame to see if I can get it to line up better. If that doesn't work, I will try Terry's method and mess with a jack on the motor to move it around until the hole lines up correctly.

Ok, so after I made this thread I went back out, removed the lower cross member, and with some "jooking and jiving" I was able to get all of the bolts in. Tight fit, but I got it to work and all the bolts torqued in normally. That was about a week ago.
I went to remove the cross member again today in order to make changing out the oil pan gasket and OPSU easier, and ran into a major snag. I loosened all the bolts as I usually do, and everything came out fine except for one of the two big front bolts. One of them came out without issue, the other one was loosening just fine, than all of a sudden became very difficult to turn. Not wanting to damage it, I tried to retighten it. Moved about a 1/4 turn and wouldn't budge. Went to loosen it again, 1/4 turn, and then nothing. I have taken an impact gun to it in both directions, and even used a massive breaker bar..nothing. The fucking bolt is flat out stuck and I feel like If I keep going with the breaker bar all that will happen is the socket will crack.
Any idea how this happened or what I can do to alleviate this situation?

see if you can spray some PB from the top, so it drips down from there. iirc, its a 17mm, find an impact 17mm socket (usually flat black color), put it on the breaker bar. The bolt will break before anything else does.
it's a strong bolt, so you'll be able to put alot of torque on it w/out worries. Start thinking about a what if scenario (bolt breaking).

I was fed up today and just gave up. With that bolt stuck in there, I was not able to get one of the front mount bolts in. Everything else is in.
Tomorrow I will see if I can get at it with some PB from above. If I cant, fuck it, I'm leaving it alone. Tired of dealing with BS shit like this anyway. Breaking that bolt is not a "what if scenario" I have any interest in even thinking about.

Thought about it, and almost did it today, but I'd like to avoid burning up those rubber gromets. I was kinda thinking of that as a last ditch effort if noone had any better ideas.
