Even if someone did have a spare, you wouldn't want to use it. The head is scrap metal if you don't have the original cam caps.

Correct, the cam caps are line bored, sorry, no mixing and matching on these. Better start searching if you want to use your head.

A good machine shop may be able to get another cap to work, but that would be a very outside chance and probably cost quite a bit, you'd be better off finding your missing one.

That brings about another question, are all of the remaining caps in the right places on the head?

All these guys are right. This is an area you absolutely cannot skimp/get by on.

Here is a diagram of the sequence for installing the caps. The caps will be numbered and have either an L or R on them. Markings in the head will also help you match things up.



If you feel like reading some more check this writeup out on an engine rebuild. About halfway down you can find this information about the cams and orientation.

thanks man i downloaded that pdf file and went at it... As far as being the idiot that lost the cap....Yes it was on the number 1 cap and all the others are in place but i dont know what to do cause i have went nuts to find that othere one....I guess ill have to go see what the machinist says when i bring this junk it....To bad these dsms can't be very simple lol...O well gotta love it right guys?



Not a chance that i can just get away with this? Even if im lucky? or could i modify the cap itself?
