A horrible noise huh. Thank you for providing some insightful descriptive words.

How tight is the belt? What level is the fluid at? How old is the fluid?

its like a grinding type noise. not sure how old the fluid is, but its good level wise. and the belt was tight enough were there was very little slack.

you say when you turn your wheel. Does it make this 'noise' when you hit the steering 'wall'? or does it do it during the actual turning...

if it does it while turning, it's your fluid level or the PS pump itself
if it does it at the 'wall', the belt isn't tight enough
also, make sure this 'noise' isn't coming from the belt tensioner. they suck.

it does it when i turn the wheel, no matter how much i turn it. and its not low on fluid. ill take a look at the tensioner. i had the p.s pump off for a while and just put it back on, is there something i could have done? it worked just fine befor.

Could be air in the system. With the car not running, take the cap off and turn the wheel lock to lock about 10 or 15 times. Check the fluid level and if it's low, top it off and repeat. If that doesn't work check for leaks where it could be sucking in air. If it's not that I'd suspect a bad pump.

Check the alignment of the banjo bolt. If you got it out of alignment then the holes from the bolt to the hose can't pass any fluid and you're about to burn out your pump.

It's the bolt right on top of the PS pump that the hard line goes to. The hardline has a loop at the end that the bolt passes through and the bolt is hollow with holes that must be lined up with the hole for the hose

The first time I pulled my pump I messed up that alignment and the pump howled and groaned like a mother

untrue. the banjo bolt is rounded inside so even if the holes arent aligned, the fluid still passes around the banjo and through the non-aligned hole. Same deal with an external wastegate.

Very true. I always attempted to keep the holes lines up just for the sake of it being like that. When I replaced my pump a couple years ago, regardless of the holes being lined up it howled, fluid full. I took out the little filter in the resevoir and it solved that problem.

i never removed that bolt, so it should still be right. i just had the pump hanging when i pulled my engine. and when i bolted it back up, it sounds like its growling at me lol.

The banjo fitting on the pump may have shifted. That can also happen if the pump was hanging from the lines

Not on all years. Earlier production cars didn't have the rounded interior. My 95 has perfectly flat walls on the inside of the banjo fitting.

ok ill look at it tomorrow. but how do i know if its lined up, since i cant see inside where the banjo bolt is. i also just looked at the belt, and its has cracks everywhere, could this cause it? or would that just make it squeel?

Worn out belts can cause some nasty noise. to check the alignment of the banjo bolt you'll have to pull it out and mark the top of the bolt for where the holes are, then make sure mark lines up with the hardline on the hose

i have never seen any type of Banjo that didnt have a channel cut into the fitting so fluid could flow around the banjo bolt to the oriface in the hose fitting.

The oriface in the botl doesnt swivel so as you tighten the oriface will continue to move. There is no way to guarentee the ports line up.

I have seen early 95's and late 97's as well as 96's and many 90-94's. All have a typical banjo fitting.

unless you can provide pictures.....I am gonna have to call bullshit ronin. Only way I can see a banjo without the groove cut in it is if the banjo bolt is actually much much smaller with a large head to seal against the banjo fitting. Still works the same way.

I will have to agree with Terry on this. Never seen any other kind of banjo bolt than the one he described.

Banjo bolts have been used on brake lines for as long as I can remember and I'm pretty sure they have never had to have the hole line up.

If you say I'm wrong terry then fine. I'm wrong.

By the time I get to the car next I probably won't remember because the car isn't at my home, it's in storage at the in-laws place 30 minutes away. I only get there every few weeks when the weather is good.

All I know is that the first time I did the timing belt I removed the PS pump instead of scooting it out of the way. When I put it back in the thing groaned like a mofo. I pulled the banjo bolt, marked it, reinstalled with the proper alignment and it stopped groaning, I also haven't had any leaks since then. From what I remember the banjo fitting didn't have an inner groove.

How much fluid does the whole system hold? I'm about to change out seals and pump. A seal burst because I didn't know and it just didn't ever say filled on the dip stick
