#129505, "Help fix belt squeak for good!"

Hello team!

I want to know what belt assembly parts I should buy to fix the belt squeak issue once and for all. Name? #?

I have bought countless belts in the past but never any pulley and tensioner parts.

Also, I took off the air cover on the bumper (like an idiot in 2002) and elements hit my belt, making it worse. Anybody know the name of the part? #?

Can anybody give me the names of the pulleys and or tensioner or any other parts I should purchase for this fix?

Thank you!

*searched but wasted too much time on "spray and pray" posts. Decided to just post a new topic.

this is the tensioner bearing: http://www.mcmaster.com/#5972k86/=2d3ipm

why not just delete the tensioner and use the PS pump as it's own tension? I've been against that for a long time, now i'm a believer.

Will installing that tensioner bearing likely cease the squeal?

I got inpatient and sprayed some belt dressing on them today. I noticed that it does NOT squeal in idle/low rpms, but the chirp takes off when i accelerate.

The ps/ac belts are tight and do not shift...got the bolt/alternator fixed a couple yrs ago.

I am taking it to my backyard mechanic on Friday....is that mod an easy job to do?

Can you be more specific in how to do it please? Thanks alot for your reply. I take great attention to all posts.

I don't know the belt size, got mine from Tim, maybe he'll chime in, or someone.

Basically you just loosen two specific bolts on either side of the power steering pump that allow it to swivel. As those bolts are loosened, pry against it and it's bracket to supply tension to the belt. While tension is applied, tighten at least one bolt to hold it in place, release tension, tighten the other. Done.

As a rule of thumb, 1/2 an inch of play back/fourth is sufficient tension for the belt.

I believe it's a 5 rib 49" belt or 5K490 or something like that

Just because this is brought up so many times (and some people are even confused as what to do), I thought I'd do a write up for the wiki;

Deleting Power Steering Tensioner

Kind of elementary, but for those at the level of needing to know, I think it works.

5 rib 490 length belt, remove the tensioner pulley, and use the PS pulley for tension FTW.
