I'm looking to buy a car with a broken/shredded timing belt. Is there any possibility of piston damage? I know the valves are probably shot. I have a spare head at home so I'm not worried about that. Car is being sold REAL cheap, but I don't want to spend alot of money on the motor if I don't have to. It has 141k on it FWIW.

Even if there is, depending on how cheap you're getting it, undamaged stock rod & piston assemblies can be had fpr cheap... i have at least six or seven laying around myself.
But yes, the chance exists.

Go for it. if you're planing on rebuilding the head, a stock bottom end rebuild in the event there is piston damage won't add much more to the cost.
