my friend has a 2g eclispe and his speedometer is showing 40mph to fast he replaced the speed sensor and still no good. also the odometer is not working. has anyone had this problem or would know how to solve the problem? i said the instrument cluster is bad but im not really sure. any help would be a great help.

You could try throwing in a different cluster to see, but is he sure that the parts place didnt sell him a Neon speed sensor?

SOHC neon speed sensor would read exactly double.

If this was happening before you even replaced the VSS, I'm guessing a previous owner removed the needles (perhaps they were installing aftermarket gauge faces) and reinstalled the needles incorrectly. I've seen this before.

Take off the needles. Turn on the car. Lightly press on the tach needle to around 900 RPMs, and press on the speedometer needle pegged at 0mph. Then go out and test.
