#12920, "Anyone shortened their shifter linkage?"

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/shifter3.html

I found this site that tells how to shorten shifter linkage on a 1G, it is basically the same for a 2G, but I've got a few questions. When centering the shifter FRONT to BACK, shouldn't the spring on the 2G setup do that for you? So in essence all you would need to do to correct the length in the linkages, would be to crack the jamnuts and adjust the length based on where the shifter is normally sitting. Is it worth the trouble to try and do this or is the factory setting good enough? Anyone done this themselves and have a few pointers?

TIA
