#129118, "OBX LSD install help"

I have my obx lsd which has been all reworked with the necessary maching. Problem is it appears to be 5/8" to short. It stalled and aligned to the ring gear fine. but it doesnt mate with the bearing retainer on 1 side, it is short by 5/8" inch measurable with a measuring tape. Thoughts? Short of machng out a spacer, which is an option, Has anyone ever seen this problem?

Holy hell batman! THAT'S what you call a tolerance issue! Sorry though, I have no input. Rebuilt mine a couple times, but not with the LSD, so not sure how different they are.

Yeah, I read this but I didn't want to post up because you probably won't like my answer. I worked extensively on my OBX. The unit can be a pretty good unit in functionality or it could be a big pain in the ass (depending on if yours was made by the 15 year old experienced kid or the 10 year old they just chained to the bench yesterday).

Their quality control is all over the place. The unit I had, I worked and reworked until I finally found out that an interior gear was much larger than it should have been (it was somewhere around 3/8's of an inch too big). So if it turned out that your unit was 5/8's of an inch to short, I would not be surprised.

Now with that being said, I would like to see a pic of what side and the bearing. Could be wrong bearing installed. You do have both races in (on each end of the diff) yes?

I'm thinking, if possible, a pic would be warranted here.

UPDATE:
The ring gear was installed on the wrong side of the differential. Flipped to the other and it fits.

Nice! Thanks for updating for future searchers. Of course good luck with her in the future (maybe yours was built by the 15 year old). If she doesn't leak after the first couple hundred miles or so, you may be in Schaefer city.

LOL well I said it fits, but it has yet to actually be tested. So it may not even spin a wheel. especcially when mine for some reason came with 5 washer as oppossed to the normal 6 and it had two of the short inner gears (the washer keepers). But with the replacments I changed them with we have preload so we will see how it turns out.

Oh I know that one. That's Hong-li's work. Yeah, he's been there awhile......

Hehe, yeah, I understand your trepidation. Good luck. Though if they work (even if they leak), they work really nice.
