It's taken a while, but barring any sensor or computer malfunctions my new toy will be running this weekend!

So far what I've done to bring this overheated Eclipse back to life after sitting for over 2 years not running plus a few goodies:

-Head machined for flatness - 0.004 off (machine shop quote "it was twisted")
-Valve job
-Crower springs (in anticipation of aggressive cams)
-PT lifters and rockers (see above) - thankyou Purpose
-New timing equipment (PD Mechanical)
-New water pump (what killed it, 1/4" play on the old one)
-MP 60mm TB
-Intake mani machined to match, and had fun with a dremmel on the runners and intake ports.
-Tsudo(ish) N1 (will report on how the very cheap ebay one sounds when running... $50 +75 shipping)
-Cat Delete

I'm glad I pulled the pistons out to see how they and the rings checked out.. rings were aligned poorly (gaps about 1-2cm apart for the compression rings)

Just need some anerobic sealant for the end caps for the cams and it's all getting back together and timed this weekend. Then all re-assembled to attempt the firing.

All said and done, it will be close to where I had my old Talon.

I am getting more and more excited for the day I can turn the key and drive this around. I regret selling the Talon and can not wait to get behind the wheel of one of these again!

Going to attempt to time this thing tonight. I have a small window to work on it on weeknights. I put the puppy to bed at 8, and try to finish by 10 so I can start work in a half groggy state instead of asleep.

Belt is sitting inside so that it is warm and easy to manuver around the timing equipment. The expansion and contraction of the belt from the temperature change shouldn't throw timing off, would it? Tension, maybe.... ideas?

Yeah, last timing belt I put on was also in the freezing cold with the help of eclipsemoneypit95... well, I helped him with my car!

I ran out of time after getting the belt on, I'll set the tension and check to make sure it went well tomorrow.

Getting the belt around the mechanical tensioner is a breeze once I realized I was hung up on what was left of my timing cover.

I've also done the timing belt in the cold several times, it just makes for a slightly stiffer belt to install. If the timing doesn't get screwy when you go from warm to cold months while it's already installed then the temp that it's installed at won't matter.

The head must have been machined sometime before.. I can`t imagine .004 causing the timing to be 1/2 tooth off. Guess I`ll have to get some adjustable gears down the road.

Finishing re-assembly tomorrow... lets hope all goes well!

After sitting dead for well over 2 years she fired up! It actually started a lot sooner than I expected, I was shocked really. I was expecting for it to be cranking and cranking an cranking and wheeze into life, but after only about 1 second she roared into life and everywhere PB Blaster was on the exhaust manifold started smoking... pretty much the whole thing!

I need a replacement front section of exhaust though, it's leaking bad out of the flex section... and another alternator belt, the one that the parts store sold me was too short, even with the alternator at the shortest distance.

The idle is a little lopy, but the timing is about 1/2 tooth off due to the machining, could that be it?

I'm actually surprised I don't have a CEL for not having a CAT or an EGR hooked up... I'll give it time though. Funny thing is I started it without an alternator belt and didn't get a light for that either.

I can't wait to finish fixing this car to get another 2GNT back on the street!

The next To Do list:
Tires... I have never seen any this bad
Tie rod ends (torn boots)
Lower lateral control arms (don't want to risk it)
Brakes (pads an rotors)
License plates

The lope could definitly be due to the timing being off, but 1/2 a tooth really isnt much at all, so I dont know.

Dont be shocked if you get some CEL's after you put some miles on the car. They would not come on upon startup. Takes some time for the ECU to log some heat cycles.

prolly would want to leave that 60mm tb off until u turbo. if memory serves me, i thought 55mm was as big as u should go n/a

60mm TB is fine on N/A. I had one on my old 2GNT, no performance setbacks that I have noticed.

I'm considering it part of future planning anyway.
