#128808, "My build/progress/headgaket"

Just some pictures of what was and what it is now, I'll update as more progress is made.

(Sorry, didn't get any pix of the head after the valve job and resurfacing, but it was pretty, I promise)

I'll be picking up some of the parts I had powder coated on Tuesday, and be able to make some more progress. Taking my new venom intake to the machine shop to have one of the hole tapped from 1/4 to 3/8, hole drilled for the map, matched to the 60mm jeep tb, and gasket matched....then that gets sent to the powder coater, as it's blue...haha.

Awesome progress!

Powder coating makes a difference. I was either powder coating or painting everything that was apart.

Yeah, I got the valve cover from fallen4ng31 back in the spring and it had been wrapped in plastic and sittin under my bed...haha. I got the power steering bracket, thermostat, radiator brackets, jeep tb, and both the lower and upper/split water/heater pipes all powder coated. Just a nice simple satin black. The venom intake will be the same. Figure I'll let the valve cover kinda be the star of the show and everything else just be clean. I'm gonna rattle can the starter, overflow support, power steering pulley, and a few other pieces with the rest of the engine paint. It was my birthday on Friday, so no work got done this weekend, but I'm off pretty much all week and picking up the powder coating Tuesday, so progress shall be made, with pictures to follow. Thanks for the kind words guys.

Quick trip to Ace Hardware Racing for some new good stuff....

Seen this on the way home from picking up the powder coating. Another few feet and that would have been a 50 foot drop to a really cold river. I laughed.

you can always turn one or two bolts.

I've been working on mine anywhere from 1/2 hr per night to 1 1/2 hrs per night, little things here and there, progress can be made, even though it may not seem like much.

- then again, mine is just a toy sitting in the garage with no real deadline.

Starting to look like an engine again. Got a lot of cleaning to do still. Still finding things I want to replace just to be on the safe side, but it'll have to wait a little bit, getting paid every 2 weeks sucks balls.

Got A LOT more work done today. Passenger motor mount back in, new timing belt, idler and tensioner bearings in, new oil filter, new radiator cap, new radiator hose clamps, spark plugs gapped and in, downpipe bolted back up to the exhaust, just about have all the mods done to get the jeep tb assembled, went back over what seemed like every bolt to make sure everything is torqued to spec.

Taking the intake over to the machine shop tomorrow to have it matched to the jeep tb, hole drilled for the map sensor, and one of the holes drilled and tapped larger for the air temp sensor....then it's off to be powder coated. Get that back, slap it on the car, get some MSD plugs ordered from Summit, fill her up with fluids, get the wires ran for the volt meter, temp gauge and new glow gauges and should be about ready to go. Not much stuff left on the check list. Prothane mounts and udp will have to wait. Can't wait to drive my fucking car again, I HATE THIS CIVIC. haha.

Uhm, the engine is about 90% put back together. Got the Venom intake work done at the machine shop...holes drilled/tapped for the map sensor, one of the holes in the back needed to be enlarged for the air temp sensor, and then the throttle body hole enlarged to match the jeep tb. That was done Thursday, and then taken to the powder coaters on Friday along with the CAI tube. Also having a spacer made as the IAC on the tb was hitting the top of the plenum. So basically sitting and waiting for more parts to be done and waiting for the extra scratch to get the last few parts. Scored an UR udp on Ebay the other day. It's just that time of year, money is tight so progress has slowed a bit as funds go to other things. Powder coating should be done Wednesday/Thursday, udp shortly after, get belts and plug wires and that is about it. phhewwww. haha. Shouldn't be too much longer now, and by god I can't wait.

I love it when the UPS man shows up....

I know some people won't believe this......but I got that thing for $110 shipped. And its brand new, not a scratch on it.

So now it's just waiting for payday, get some belts, still gotta order the damn plug wires, the intake manifold and CAI tube are done at powder, spacer for the TB should be done by the end of the week. My xmas gift might be my car done...haha.

Well, got the car completely reassembled today. It started! Timing is right on, but it's idling wayyyy high. Adjusted the IAC 3 times and it idled the same every time, gave up for the night, too cold, tired, and hungry...and my damn back hurts. Fuckin alternator and the intake manifold bolts. grrr. anyways.

Anyways, of course 2gnt comes through with the answer to why it was idling so high, I forgot to plug the little hole right under the throttle body, the idle air passage I think. So, I'll run tomorrow to Ace and grab a 1/2 inch rubber plug and hopefully that solves it. Fingers crossed that that fixes it and my baby will be back on the road tomorrow.

Alright so I ate dinner and got ancy, Ace was still open so I ran and got 2 different 1/2 inch plugs. Idle is a little better but still too high.

It's idling about 3200 right now, I bump the gas up to about 4k and let off and it drops down to about 2k and automatically jumps back up to 3200. Any ideas? Is my IAC still not set properly? Another vaccum leak somewhere? How should I adjust the IAC, screwed further in (shorter) or unscrewed more (longer)?

Try taking the throttle cable off and see if that does anything. If it still idles that high after the throttle cable is off then you more than likely have an intake leak and its more than likely after the throttle body.

I had a similar problem on my old Talon when I installed the Modern Performance throttle body, it was a leak after the TB.

Do you have all vaccum ports connected? I had one come off of the box on the back of the block when I was putting mine back together in December, but I caught it before firing.

Good to know it's running again! Did you have any doubts it would fire?

Make sure that your plug is flush in the IAC hole of the manifold.

Also, check the throttle shaft spring and make sure its not too tight. I.e. too many coils in a small space will cause hanging.

I did some searching last night and found that the IAC tip should be exactly an inch, from what I remember looking at it last night, it needs to get screwed in ALOT more, it's sticking out about 1 3/4 - 2 inches right now. That, and I might need to back off the idle set screw so the butterfly is closed completely at idle. Think fixing those will bring the idle down 2k? I hope so. I'm ready to drive her.

Alright, Got a new IAC, got the old idle air channel blocked....here's whats happening now.

Car starts, idles at about 1800, and then starts climbing by itself. Within about 15 seconds its up to 4500, I tap the gas and it goes up and then drops to 1800 and starts climbing again. That's while it's in park.

If its in drive or reverse, its about 1200...which is still a little high, but I was able to take it around the block twice.

That's annoying. I hate getting into the T-belt while it's in the car. Do it enough and it gets less annoying though.
