#128730, "knocking sound.. please help!"

hi i just had my engine built last year late spring and i had forged JE pistons and Eagle rods put in. bored out a little. last friday i got in the car, turned it on and it was ticking. it sounded like lifter tick so i replaced the 2 lifters that sounded like it was coming from them. but the sound is still there. i did a compression test today and the numbers came out to test 1=215,215,180,215... test 2= 215,215,165,220--i did do the test cold.. anyway what could the ticking be?? as you rev the engine the ticking gets faster and louder. someone mentioned to me rod knock, but idk.. please help me out, thank you!!!

#3 is way low, you should try a wet compression test. If it's shown to be bad piston rings you could be dealing with piston slap caused by bad rings.

There is always a chance that it is an exhaust manifold leak. It happened to me, and sounded exactly like lifter tick.

yeah i had an exhaust leak due to a cracked gasket at the manifold, but i recently put a tripple plated titanium steal gasket on so its not leaking.. u can feel it inside the engine if you put your hand on it, you feel a knock =/

I was sick of dealing with the shit graphite coated Felpro gaskets so I switched to a stock Mitsu MLS gasket and havent had an issue since.

Piston slap?

That is for a 4G63 motor.

Additionally I was more poking fun of your spelling and use of the words titanium steal. I am assuming you mean steel?

And for those wondering, OEM exhaust gaskets are the MLS style and work great - I have resued them without leaks in favor of the composite style aftermarket. If you can find new MLS gaskets they are great to have.
