#128387, "Timing belt tip!"

Hey guys, I meant to post this earlier but I totally forgot until just now.

As I was pulling the timing assembly off of my donor car I discovered an interesting method of getting the passenger side motor mount off with amazing ease.

All of us hate those damn long ass bolts that hold the engine side of the mount to the block because there's no room to get that last bolt out and it's like a fucking rubiks cube. Many prople drill a hole in the framerail. I never liked that idea.

A while back I sold the rear trans mount to another member and didn't think much about it until I started pulling the head and I had to remove the timing assembly. I didn't pull the front mount because I didn't think about it. When I went to jack up the engine it swung FORWARD and allowed the stubborn bolts to slide right out! In my surprise I realized that this could make my life easier every time that I have to do a belt job. I also was worried about what it could do to the CV joints on the axles so I poked my head up under there to inspect them and see if it was pulling on the boots. To my surprise they weren't being pulled beyond anything that I would be worried about.

So long story short, pull the rear mount instead of the front when doing the t-belt and you'll be able to get the engine mount bolts out like cake.

Sorry I don't have pics, I wasn't expecting to make an awesome discovery

i'm sorta confused. If the front mount is still bolted, how does the motor swing FORWARD? i just can't picture that happening

It pivots on the front roll stopper and as you jack it up from the oil pan it will rotate forward.

Not looking to rain on your parade or anything, but many find that rear mount to be a bit troublesome to get at. But more importantly, try lining it back up after your done. It can be a bit awkward.

But if others find this method better, then that's certainly another way to get there.

Ive never had that much trouble with the rear mount.

My method of getting it off is undoing the rear MM and front MM, and jacking it sky high.
