#128368, "To Bore or to Buy"

Hi All,

Many years ago I bought an extra stock TB. I still have it and its just sitting. Now that my car is running again, i've been thinking about having it bored out to 55.

I was wondering about the cost to bore vs just buying one from ebay.

I've no idea how much it cost to bore this out, plus what other parts I'd need (ie. do i need a new spacer? or new "plate" for the inside of the tb?)

Any help is appreciated so thanks!

KC

Check ebay as well. There are guys on there who will send you a bored stock TB and then give you a refund when you send your stock TB back. From what I remember when I was looking into this it's not to expensive.

Personally though, I'd go with a Modern Performance 60mm..

Good luck!

Hmmm I'm not familiar with the modern performance 60. I'll do some research.

YAH! I came across that one off a google search. I think it was through a link in dsmtuners. That seems like a hell of a deal.

Installation seems pretty straight forward. Any gotchas i should look out for?

Nope.

Throttle body is a straight forward swap! Also, look into the 60mm Jeep TB. There a couple of write ups in the wiki.

A bigger throttle body and UDP are the two mods I recommend the most. They made the biggest "fun" gains for me.

Ya know, the UDP spooked me. I bought one about maybe 4 years back. I took it to a shop and when they removed the original UDP they bent the bar that it actually connects to. totally trashed my car. (they didnt have that pulley "puller" you need to remove it. I had to take it to satan to get repaired. ever since then, i've been a little gun shy of this.

In reality, i think my case was pretty unique as these guys (i now realize were complete idiots). In general, this mod doesnt seem too invasive.

Anyone recommend a good shop in San Diego or LA area?

Pull it yourself!

You can rent the tool from Advance for 50 bucks. When you return it you get 50 bucks back!

Ive pulled mine off several times, never had this issue. The shop you took it too were morons.

EdZachery. Vatozone charges a $70 deposit that's completely refundable as long as you don't break it.

Also, remove the passenger motor mount so that the side of the engine can drop an inch to give plenty of room to remove the stock pulley.
