So I just replaced the radiator about 2 weeks ago because it had a small crack on the top plastic piece. I let someone borrow my car and they were driving it around for the day. They said they heard a grinding noise, almost like bearings or pulleys about to go out. Then all of a sudden all of the coolant began to leak out?

I got the car back and checked it out for myself, and in fact, when yhou pour coolant/water into the radiator, it just pours back out from the bottom of the engine. The car is not cranked or running when this happens, it just pours out. I can't seem to locate where it is coming from but know it is around the side of the engine where the water pump is located.

I am not sure if it is the bottom radiator hose where it meets the engine, maybe a freeze plug that has come out, or if my water pump has cracked.

If anyone has any info, it would be appreciated. I also am looking for a diagram of the freeze plug locations so I can check that first before tearing the side of the motor apart to change the water pump and timing belt.

I have a 98 eclipse RS w/ 2.0 420a engine and 170,000 miles. Have had the car for a few years with no major mechanical problems.

I hate to say this, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be the water pump. Jack it up and have someone put water in it while you look from underneath. Just lay under the drivers side so you don't get soaked lol.

Thanks. I pretty much figured this would be the case, but I was hoping for an easier fix. Looks like I have another weekend project lined up.
