#127315, "New motor wont start"

So i built my 10th engine or so and this one confuses me.....i took a solid motor out of my 97 gs hahn turbo 16g setup and sold it to a friend of mine. i built a new engine 020 over everything looks good on it.....compression is good but there doesnt seem to be any spark....i can pull one of the plugs off and connect a plug to it and it doesnt spark. i tried to start it several times and then one time it started....then the next day i put the last of it together, radiator, belts, hoses, basically finsihed everything and now same problem.....no spark at all at the coil. changed the cam sensor and still nothing. any clues?

Did you mix up the plugs....I did that on my new build...there are two plugs that will interchange with eachother...I can't remember which ones they are but I would check your wire harness plugs again

Well I have no Check Engine Lights....But I just don't have a engine...LOL

yea the camshaft and the coil have the same plugs but they only reach far enough to plug in to each one.

how come when you plug and unplug the cam sensor, you can hear the fuel pump turn on and off......does that rule the cam sensor out?

No, if the ecu doesn’t detect around 30-50 millivolts, it will not trigger the fuel pump relay. Not sure about all other years, but that's how mine was (late 96). Are you getting a pulsing voltage 0-5v from the crank sensor signal while cranking?

i am not so sure how to check the ohms and volts on sensors so if anyone can explain it to me that would help.....the motor that was in it ran fine, but i wanted to build another one. so im thinking a sensor or something is bad since all the sensors on the other motor were fine.

I think we are talking about the coil and speed sensor.
