#127273, "2.4 Alternator Mounting"
Sep-01-09 07:37 PM by Star Turbo Talon

Dicked around the alternator mounting brackets today. Found that using the SRT4 lower bracket (aluminum mount) and 2.4 Turbo upper bracket (steel) results in the need for the bracket to be slotted or the adjustment bolt will not line up with the alternator.

Conversely using the same lower mount and a 2GNT upper mount requires the use of a spacer between the alternator and bracket (as seen in the pictures). Also I threw in some pictures of the two brackets for comparison.

I stacked 4 or 5 washers between the alternator and the bracket emoji

I used the 2GNT upper because I was told it worked, had one laying around, and didnt want to buy a 2.4L bracket if I didn't have to. Still works fine, never had any issues with it.

I also purchased an oem Pt cruiser alternator mount, which will come with it and allow you to mount your alternator without any pissing around in our stock location. Your adjustment bolt fits right in there and you're good to go. Brand new.

Any truth to this??

With some new hardware showing up from the Mopar dealer and McMaster I have the alternator successfully mounted using an SRT4 lower mount and a 420a Eclipse upper mount.

Waiting on my UDP from Modern Performance and I will size up a gatorback for her.

Thanks for saving me the time and money also. Just wish my 2.4 project was coming along as quickly as yours. Keep up the good work.

Hahah :p

Well it can be used of course - just need to slot the block mounting points so the adjustment bolt alignment is correct.

Just found out there was bad information over on the sticky on Neons.org.

I ordered an upper alternator bracket for a turbo model which is incorrect. That part number is 4891533AA.

What should have been in there is the N/A upper alternator bracket, part # 4668446AA. That has the correct offset supposedly so that a stack of washers is unnecessary and the adjustment slot is not half an inch too high. Being only $13.00 I am going to pick one up to test fit it for future use.
