#126817, "420a to an Evo 8 Swap"

Is it hard and more expensive to do an Evo swap than it is just to build the 420a motor.(Fyi 5G's to rebuild fully) Is an Evo swap the same amount of money?

Just buy a GST or GSX and swap the 4g motor for the newer evo 8 prefer an used one if you find a wrecked evo8 or if you have the cash exchange the used 4g motor you have in the car for Bushurs and get custom mounts fabbed up from him.

Its just a waste of money, go do the easy route mentioned.
It would save you money and the headache

wat

4G63's have the motor on the drivers side. Evo 8 motor is on the opposite side like ours. I highly doubt that fabbing simple mounts to convert a GST/GSX to Evo 8 is all thats required.

Swapping the 420A to Evo 8 is pointless too. The cost could buy a good GSX.

Dan on this board made a swap kit. Makes evo swapping a breeze. Because nothing is more practical than swapping one 2L engine for another completely different 2L engine.

BTW, for 5k, you can buy 2 2gnts. Then your odds are at least 50% you'll have one good 420a to drop in your car.

My buddy swapped an Evo 5 motor into his 2001 Mitsu Mirage, total cost was around 5K. Im pretty sure it would be about the same job, if not easier on the eclipse..

1999 Eclipse GS
Built motor
Hahn 16G Turbo w/ FMIC
Hahn Stage 5 Portfueler (270's & 500's)
Zeitronix Zt-2 wideband w/ 3.5bar MAP
3" SS Turbo Back
CM Stage 4 Clutch and Fidanza Flywheel
Baer Big Brake Kit

Looks cool but it's just pointless without the awd.... I'd prefer to build a bad ass 420a than a stock evo8 4g63T to STILL be FWD....

my 2 cents

I dont think the AWD would shut me up emoji

As far as shit power in a 420A, I think you have come to the wrong place to preach that message.

Could just be me though.

actually you can easily use the evo tranny with doing some modifications to the shifter linkage and adding a viscous coupler eliminator or adding a blockoff plate like the guy in the link at the bottom of my post has done. AWD guys use the VCE for running on Dynos not meant for AWD or you could always buy a GSX rear end and gas tank and put it in with some adapting to the drive shaft if needed.

Here's a link that shows a guy doing a lot of work on a swap and such. He made is brackets and refabbed his shifter linkage to work. Hell you could even get yourself a 6 speed if you get the right tranny.
