#126690, "what clutch for 400hp + ?"
Jul-20-09 12:54 AM by Cyexmaster

Well since I am going to take my block to the machine shop and all the moving parts are going to get balanced I am looking for a good clutch to get my power to the ground....

I've seen a few options but not quite sure yet. I don't want a modular one that decided. I will be using a stock 95 neon flywheel.

Here's my options so far:

Clutchnet red pressure plate/ and clutchnet 6 puck sprung hub

Clutchnet red pressure plate/ and ACT 6 puck sprung hub

Fidanza 5.4 clutch kit (it's a 6 puck solid hub. not quite sure if that is street worthy)

Competition Clutch stage 4 6 puck ceramic sprung hub kit

I just want something that's mean, but that I can use it on a weekend racer car...around the street of course but some drag strip action will be done at least once monthly.

Plz some feedback would be great...

Give South Bend Clutch a call. They've been in the clutch business for a long time, and they know what they're doing. Let em know what you're looking for and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to get you what you need.

I also went non-modular with the Fidanza stage 4 clutch and lightweight flywheel combo. The stage 4 has the same 6 puck carbon kevlar plate with ceramic buttons as the stage five, but it is sprung. It never slips, grabs hard, and is streetable.

1999 Eclipse GS
Built motor
Hahn 16G Turbo w/ FMIC
Hahn Stage 5 Portfueler (270's & 500's)
Zeitronix Zt-2 wideband w/ 3.5bar MAP
3" SS Turbo Back
CM Stage 4 Clutch and Fidanza Flywheel
Baer Big Brake Kit

keep an eye on products being sold by this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Eclipse-95-99-Custom-engine-turbo-ignition-kit-420a_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1171Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem41473fa5f8QQitemZ280368227832QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I just got a reply from him on what all he's selling and he told me he has the following that he'll be listing:

- 420a 5spd with new qauife lsd and new bearings and seals
- brand new centerforce clutch and Fidanza Flywheel
- New carbon ss hood
- 2.5 cat back exhaust
- Lambo door hinges with 1050 lb shocks

see what price he puts out for the centerforce, or PM him for a model that he has so you can see if it's for you.

I would look at what DSM-Zero is running. He has a high horse power 420a and from looking at the stuff he used in his build, here's what clutch he used.

FX600 twin disc kevlar/kevlar from Clutchmaster

From looking at that, you can gauge what kind you would need to get. Might be a good idea too to ask him where all he checked and what not.

i have always liked

Clutchmasters
compition Clutch
SPEC

But my problem is once you get an alum flywheel pressure plate and disc its already almost a 1000 bucks and for a couple of hun more you can get a twin??

I would go non-modular sprung hun ORGANIC disc With an alum flywheel and not a high pressuse pressuse plate..some thing that can hold the power and not beat you up when you drive....als a non-mod will allow you to rebuild it if need be

661hp & 463tq Worlds highest hp 2gnt soon to be the fastest

Don't use an unsprung clutch if you intend on spending much time on the streets.

SBC can get you pretty much anything you need for any power level. I'd contact them.

thanxs for the info, I looked at the SBC but it's over my budget....
I am waiting to see if I can get a good deal on a Clutchnet plate with a ACT 6 puck sprung hub, if not I might go with a similar setup from Competition Clutch... I will let you guys know how good is whatever I get.

Nope..... I don't want to save weight there, plus they are way overpriced.

I would consider the light flywheel if I was NA but for turbo I'd rather stay with the "heavy" one lol..... As well as the pulley, but if it causes any problems I will have to find a solution to that.

Thanxs for the interest DSM-ZERO...
