Hey wassup guys. Today i tried starting my car for the first time and when i went to do it all there was was a click. Now i had the fan inside the car on and once i went to turn the car on it shut off until i put the key back into the on position and the lights inside the cluster gauge would dim a little bit. So far i've changed the battery checked the lines and even installed a new starter. And still i get the same thing. I put it in the on position and turn the fan on and put the windows down and its fine. But when i go to turn the car on i hear a click the fan turns off the gauge cluster lights dim and the engine doesn't even try to start. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Your cables and starter are proven good... Sounds like a weak/dead battery to me. Try charging or jumping it.

You might need to hunt for a short or something that could be draining the battery prematurely

well today i started the car by running a wire from the power cable of the starter to the little black cable. Its started fine but when i turned it off and tried to restart it it started winding and a little smoke was coming from near the air filter i put on the little metal tube on top of the engine. anybody know what the problem is know?

Hmmm... After re-reading your first post I think I misread it. You stated that you have a new battery and starter but you just checked your wires right? How did you check the wires? Was it just a visual inspection or did you use a meter to check how much voltage was actually finding it's way to the starter?

Considering the age of our cars and the cheap wires that mitsu used in the first place, (and I've been saying this for YEARS BTW) your cables are probably fried and unable to pass enough current to the starter. Use a multimeter to test how much voltage you're seeing at the battery directly from the terminals and repeat the same test at the starter, if you're more than .5v difference then it's time to look at replacing the cables entirely.

another check you can do is to cut open the jacketing on the cables a few inches, (Nothing so far that you couldn't tape them back up easily) and check for corrosion or oddly colored wire strands. If it's not nice bright copper within an inch of the exposed end then the wire is toast.
