#126289, "Stock axles not enough for all motor?"
Jun-26-09 08:17 AM by LLs420a

Yesterday was the first day for me to get my high comp 420a out on the street. I was doin a little 3rd gear pull, getting on it pretty good but not even WOT when I heard something start to "clank". Immediately pulled over and killed the car and found that I had twisted the drivers side axle in two. I thought our stock axles were rated for like 600 horsepower??? Just wondering what other applications have the same axles but maybe stronger? Thanks

If you twisted/sheared a stock axle, it was either a poor quality axle from a hole in the wall joint, or there is something else binding. Never had any troubles other than the usual cracked boot on my all motor car. Stock axles should be able to handle anything you can do all motor.

thats what I thought. But the axle twisted exactly in between the wheel and the case. I dont see anything that could have put it in a bind. Any ideas? I will try to get some pictures up later on today if I can get my camera.

REAL stock axles (as in OEM) will take anything all motor. But they won't take 600whp.

Of course if you are talking about crappy aftermarket NAPA axles, get rid of those and get good used OEM.

These are the axles that came in the car. They are OEM. I dont know how it happened, I have been looking at it all day and I'm stumped. It wasnt in any kind of bind and everything was lubed up properly. Lol, my car is NOWHERE NEAR 600 horses, but I was VERY impressed with the way the build turned out. Plenty of power and some crazy torque, cant wait to get it on the dyno
