#12618, "Messed up CV axles!!!!!!"

Just wondering if having messed up CV axles can hurt performance??? According to my friend, there was a leak in the boots itself and I have a slight elliptical curve in the passenger side axle. Thanks!!!!!

I wouldn't worry unless the boot is ripped, the joint is making noise, or you feel vibration. And if you do replace the axle, absolutely avoid the axles that Advance sells. They've given me 3 bad axles in a row. I'm getting a refund and taking my money elsewhere. I am just so sick of changing them out.

Well, I'm getting the bad vibes around 80, but I don't think it has to do with the axles. Ya, the boot does have a tear in it. When I turn the wheel, you can hear it click click. Anyways, thanks for the reply.

they generally run between 40-90$ depending if you have abs or no. i think if you do buy the part on your own you should install it. its a very simple procedure. definitely good experiance. get a chiltons tho it'll help. its maybe a 2hour job tops. provided you have all the tools.

And if you are hearing the clicking change it quickly. Who knows how long it will last. Not too hard either, grab a manual and tear into it.

Well, I don't hear the 'clicking' during any type of driving (be it normal or hard). It's only when I'm in a stop, and turn the wheel.

If you have a torn boot and grease is getting out, then you will eventually ruin the joint. A tear will tend to spread and eventually all of the grease will fling out. Water and dirt will get in and the joint will fail. It probably won't be a catastophic failure, so you can drive for a while before fixing it. I've had 2 torn boots. Drove about 1000 miles on each before fixing them. You will need to fix it, but you can drive for awhile until its convenient.
