#125905, "95 GS No spark not the ECU"

this is my post on dsmtuners ive gotten one reply need help please sorry its long but i know from experiance the details are important.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420a-bolt-tech/337591-no-spark-starting-think-ecu-since-its-95-a.html

ok first i want to say ive looked at every no spark thread on here and have not found and answer.
lets start with my engine
420a with hrc turbo kit and portfueler msd dis II ignition

now the problem and details
Absolutly no spark what so ever. i have power to the coil but i am not getting a trigger signal from the ECU. i have backtraced the wires and conducted a continuity test on the coil trigger wires to the ecu and from the Crank sensor and the cam sensor to the ecu now both of these sensors are new and the car ran for about 150 miles then the next morning i went to start it and it cranked but didnt start when it finally did it was missing like crazy the msd control box was showing a irradic trigger signal fault about an hour later it would not start and hasnt since thats been about two weeks ago. ive replaced the coil even thought i didnt think that was the problem and conducted mutiple tests to check the wiring harness but everything has passed the mitsu dealer told me they cant check the ecu without the car and i dont know anyone with a 95 eclipse. the only thing i can think of that i dont know how or where it is to check is this asd relay the hans manual shows it on the firewall near the battery along with two other relays but i only have two realys there and they dont match the connector diagram that the book shows so i dont know how the heck to check them if anyone knows please let me know i will provide any info i have left out of this post.

also after attempting to start the car i can smell fuel and the fuel pressure at my regulator is staying constant (and rebuild pressure after i released the pressure from the fuel rail) im getting fuel just not spark. which makes me think its not the asd relay unless there are two relays built into the unit and only half of its not working
as i posted on the other forum ive rplaced the ECU and did not fix the problem. i feel like im missing somthing because i changed absolutly nothing between the time it started and when it would not start i just dont understand.

your refering to the trigger sensor wires for the coil right if so ill check again but they had continuity two days ago...i tested to see if the ecu was sending the fire signal by hooking a test light to the center wire of the coil and hooking the ground up to one of the trigger wires = no light

Other items discussed in chat:
1) You changed the ECU in your 9/94 ("late 95" production) car from
P5269656 = (Eclipse) FED W/MT FROM 6/16/94
to
P5269730 = (Sebring, Avenger, Talon) FED W/MT FROM 6/16/94
This should work as the two cars were identical for those two years but the ECU Part numbers should always match if possible at all. http://car-part.com is an excellent source.

2) CKP or Crankshaft Position Sensor is "Connector A04" in the FSM diagrams. With the tab at the top, pin one is to the left, pin 3 is to the right...
Pin1 is yellow (8v source) (Should connect to pin4 on 95 ECU, verify yellow wire)
pin2 is black with green stripe (ground) (Should be pin 11 on ECU, verify)
pin3 is blue with white stripe (5v signal) (Should be pin 25 on ECU, verify!)

ok well i have no idea what is going on the yellow wire has 9 volts the black and green (ground) has .2 volts?? while cranking and .001 when not cranking and the sensor wire has 5 volts and .2 when not cranking? anyone got any suggestions here...im not sure why my ground wire would have voltage thats a little confusing...

for somereason my orignal crank connector had a diffrence
1 blue white
2 black green
3 yellow
which if you look at it from the wire harness side is correct???

i changed the sensor because i bought a autozone crank sensor im so damn confused at all the diffrences between the 95 and the rest of the 2g eclipses its driving me nuts

If you're looking at the sensor, with the tab at the top, Pin 1 (Leftmost) is Yellow.

If you're looking at the face of the unplugged harness, with the tab at the top, Pin 3 (Rightmost) is Yellow.

If you're looking at the back of the plugged-in harness, with the tab at the top, Pin 1 (Leftmost) is Yellow.

OR it's the other way around, emoji I can never tell.

That's why I said go by wire colors and match up the pins. The FSM language is confusing too:

The connecter with male terminal(s) is called as male connector and indicated by double connector contour lines.
The connector with female terminal(s) is called as female connector and indicated by single connector contour.
The symbol indicates the connector as viewed from the illustrated direction.
At the connection with a device, the connector symbol on the device side is shown

wow you wernt kidding..think i understand..only thing is that i dont have a diagram of this damn autozone crank sensor...and they dont either...i called mitsu and they dont have one called dodge the had one but it was the diffrent connector which wont help me at all..this is really frustrating...i cant imagin that a new sensor went bad overnight and then i got a brand new bad one the next day serously what are the odds???

i also changed out the asd relay no change.....

You don't need a diagram of the sensor- if it plugs in it has the same schematic as I already posted above. Pin 1 is Yellow +8v.

If you reversed the wires when replacing the connectors, you might have damaged the sensor or ECU or both.

If you buy anything from Vatozone, you have a good chance of getting a bad part. "Brand New" NEVER means "Known Good", especially when purchased from a discount parts retailer.

Also keep in mind:

- Your MSD DIS2 might have failed. I have seen several go bad in a row on 2gnt's.

- Your crank sensor has to be measured with an oscilloscope, you won't see the voltage changes on a voltmeter.
EDIT - Looking at http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=124520 I guess you'll get an alternating 5v as you turn the crank around? I was thinking of the spark output from the coil that has to be oscilloscope probed.

- The CAMshaft position sensor could also be bad, but I don't think that affects spark on 2gnt? See: http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=122466&mesg_id=122466&listing_type=search#122478

yeah i thought of the msd going bad but that wouldnt explain the cel and one of the first things i did was unhook the ingnition adapter and plug the bypass plug to check the msd... didnt know youd have to have an ocillscope...figures the voltage changes are quick and really small makes sense almost too much sense....ok so new crank sensor it is thanks i have to order it so itll be a few days

ok so this is what i have...changed the crank sensor the CEl for crank sensor is now gone...but im still not getting the ground from the ECU to activate the ASD i also found that when i jumped the ground and forced the asd to activate i still had no power to the coil...the only place that wire goes is through connector a-82 and the capacator is spliced in...but why isnt my ECU giving the ground to activate the ASD relay?? im gonna put my old ecu back in and see if it works

ok so this is what was going on when i quit for the night
cel code 42 asd or fuel pump relay has short or open

removed the msd ignition just to get that varable out of the way

attempted to ground a trigger wire at the coil..got alot of spark???thought that the trigger wires were grounds why would i be getting spark?

fuel pump is running fine i dont always hear it prime but when i crank the engine its running

if i jump the asd pin four to ground i hear it acitivate but the car still wont start..kinda sputters at first but wont actully run it did run once or twice but only for a sec or two so rough..i hit the gas it died.

i have jumped the wire from the asd relay to the coil since it was apparently grounded out somewhere

the ecu is still not sending the ground to the asd relay and without a cel to tell me why it wouldnt do that i have to think the ecu is bad AGAIN

and last but not least i bought an asd relay from the dealership...low and behold it was the wrong connector...for either the asd or the fuel pump..the connectors are correct but the cover is wrong so i popped the guts out and attempted to put them in one of the old caps well it doesnt fit quit right..but either way it was plugged into the asd connector still getting the cel 42

i have searched for hours on here and seems like the only people who had the same or similar problem threads just end without a solution...

i think im being punished by some higher power not to mention i feel like im talking to myself on here

Screw pretty I want Fast

i agree i hooked the cam sensor up wrong the first time and all it did was throw a CEL as soon as i switced the two wires i had backwards the CEL went out and i didnt have any problems till the car stopped starting
as far as the crank sensor i am going to rule it out as a culprit because before when i had the wires incorrectly hookedup i was getting a crank sensor CEL now im not...only the cel code 42 for asd or fuel pump open or short in control circuit....

also reconnected the wire from the asd relay that goes to the coil. i dont think that wire is grounded think i either didnt check it right or its shut off because of the cel 42 after i check out the harness im going to reconnect everything and see what happens..
