#125627, "how much can this set up handle?"

hey everyone, new here, gots a few questions if you guys dont mind emoji

i have a 97 automatic 420a with a homemade turbo kit

currently building the bottom end with 8:8:1 wiseco, and eagle rods, acl bearings, mls head gasket

currently have 500cc injects
12:1 fmu
walbro 255
afc neo for tuning
wideband and boosty gauge *any others you'd recommend?*

sooo in short what do you guys think would be the safest amount of psi to run with that setup??? i was planning on doing 13 psi *fav number*

anything you guys would suggest doing?
anything else you need to know please ask emoji

thanks in advanced.

first i would get a large 6 pass trany cooler, transmission temp gauge, along with change the fluid and the filter, add larger more efficient magnets to the pan, and install diff pin brackets.

then an oil pressure gauge

the bottom end is fine for whatever you throw at it, the transmission is not, its junk. so becuase of that, i would go no higher then 10-12psi, which would be "fun" "enjoyable" daily driver, personally 10-12 psi on these cars is what they should have felt like from the factory. power wise.

after those mods i would change all belts, hoses, and other fluids.

then look into getting a 1-1 fpr, and going either MS or 8 injector set up.

the tranny parts seem do-able, i'll be getting an oil cooler for sure and the temp gauge for it along with the oil press gauge. i have a new timing set to throw in, but i'm also deciding on if i should keep the a/c or not, pfft it doesn't even work that great anymore XD

thanks for the info emoji

i agree w/ what cotton said. I wouldn't throw much more than 13psi at the tranny than that.

If you're looking for a tranny cooler, i have one. I used it on mine before I did the MTX swap. $20 shipped. PM me if you're interested.

ya, i pretty much wanted to stick with 13 cuz like i said before its ma favorite number and it suits my car cuz its been to hell and back multiple times lol. i think i'll just end up getting a cooler from advanced for the time being XD also i'm gonna be getting it dyno tuned once the motor is all broken in and everything and i'll be crossing my fingers and hoping the tranny stays put lol

i need to make a lot of changes to the car before anything though >< the bay needs a lot of cleaning up, i'm actually kinda learning off this car soo lol heh. anywho, and little tid bits of advice would be helpful emoji as far as keeping it running for atleast another year lol

had the car 3 years and driven it for a combined total of 1 lol

Just a reiteration on a little bit of a pet peeve; boost is not a measure of horsepower.

yes keep in mind, that boost is a relative number, of pressure above atmospheric pressure, in any given space.

that pressure is only half the equation, the other half is volume.

so 13 psi through a straw would not yeild the same amt of power as 13 psi through a 2" pipe. given the needed supporting mods.

if i knew how to link pics from other forums, there is a gentleman there that did an HX40 vs GT3067 at 40psi comparison. IMO not a fair comparison, the gt35r would have been a better battle but either way.

at 40psi the hx40 laid out 637awhp on his basic build 4g63
at 40psi the gt3076 laid out 520ish whp same set up.

both turbos really didnt start doing anything until 3k and really didnt show hard pull til 5-7500 rpm..

however to say how much power will my turbo at 10psi make, is more so relative to engine size, turbo size, piping size, and all other supporting mods.

not all 10psi hahn kits make a standard 220whp. their are a lot more factors.

that's true, that's one thing i've also learned in this little journey, plenty of factors to contribute, for ex. my intercooler piping, although i did it myself, i feel its not as efficient as it could be, and i would love to experiment with different parts, but not everyone ahs that kind of fund XD. but its not so much the power i'm gonna get from being at that point, i know it will add some but its just where i want to be and experiment with as time goes on emoji
