how difficult is it to replace the heater in our cars? i haven't taken a look behind the center console, but i'm guessing i need to replace everything. the previous owner had the hoses to the heater cut and capped so i'm guess the heater core was probably leaking. how difficult is it to install a new/used heater?

i live in hawaii ATM so it's no biggie but i think i might wanna keep the car when we move to the mainland in a couple years. i imagine not having a heater might suck.

or is it better to just go with an electronic heater at this point?

you will have to remove the dash. honestly its not that hard, i have an avenger/eclipse dash down to about 35 minutes to get it out.

once the console and dash are out.

drop the heater box. since the heater hoses are already off that saves you a ton of aggravation. However you will still need to remove the evaporator core, lines, which involves evacuating the A/C system.

once you've done this, take off the 6 or 8 bolts that hold the heater box to the firewall it comes out in a couple of pieces.

open up the case, which is held by several #2 phillips head screws.

then take out the heater core... i suggest while you are in there for the cost of parts you might as well replace the evaporator core.

then reverse the order.

this is a day long or even weekend long task for someone not too familiar with cars and doesn't own a lot of tools.

keep in mind once this job is done you will need to put the A/C system under vacuum, then re-charge it, i suggest adding 1oz of dye and at least 1oz of pag oil.
