SORRY FOR THE LENGTH!!! APPRECIATE THE HELP!!!

Hey Guys havent been on in a while. Well really havent driving the Eclipse in a while. But about a month ago I decided to starting working on it to sell. So I finished the interior, put in a new battery, changed the oil and washed it up and started driving it.

To start off it has had a little problem for a while where after driving on the highway coming to a stop with no gas and not in gear it would die, but then would start right back up, but that rarely happened.

Well it ran great for about a week. Then when I would go to start it it would take a couple of times to start. Then it got worse and sometimes would not start at all. well I did some research on here and realized that the IAC could be the problem, so I had an extra throttle body and just replaced the whole thing, IAC and all. Started right back up, ran great again. Took it to a friends house and boom, would start, we checked spark, fuel pressure, fuel pump, made sure the fuel rail was receiving fuel. Then all of a sudden it started and ran fine for a day or 2. Brought it home went to move it and nothing.

So this morning I went out to see if it would start since its got a mind of its own and will start randomly. Well I check spark plug wire connections, vacuum connections, the plug into the ignition coil. Then I checked the fuel rail pressure valve or whatever it is called. So I had someone crank it and checked it, fuel came out like it was supposed to. So she went to start it and it ran fine. Turned it off, tryed to turn it back on and nothing again. Cranked it again, hit the valve on the fuel rail again, cranked over on the next try perfectly and ran.

So I am very confused. Any help would be greatly appreciative. If I can get this to run the right way, ill help you guys out however I can. Thanks again guys!!!

I bought a cheap talon from a guy who couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I had to replace the fuel pump since it was sitting so long. After that the car would run perfect then die after it warmed up. I started checking the sensors and the crank shaft sensor was cracked and when the car warmed up it spread apart and the car died. Never threw one code. Maybe your problem is similar.

I would also ohm out the coil assembly in your fuel pump relay and check the contacts for high resistance or an open circuit while activated, to make sure that it's not failing on you. When relays start to fail they may operate fine when cold and then stop working all together when the coil that operates the contacts heats up or the contacts themselves heat up.
I just fixed a 2GNT that had the exact symptoms you just described and it was the fuel pump relay going out.

Good Luck!

well sounds like a bad connection..right behind the left front tire there is a connector(right under the fuse box and ecu) there was a TSB that said to remove that connector and hard wire it because when it corroded it would not let the car start. check that out and see if it helps

I just started having a similar issue. My car starts fine cold, no problems whatsoever... well a little rough idle until it warms up, but I figure when the wires to the cam sensor are cold, they become stiff and cause a bad connection in the plug until it warms up. But yesterday I went to the store with my wife and when I got in to start the car, it wouldn`t start unless I hit the gas. After it ran a little, I shut it off and It did the same thing. I hear the pump priming and I even primed it twice before starting. Any ideas?

Well, when I stilled lived in CT, I checked my theory and I was right. If I fiddled with the wires, the car would act up. Plus, only in the extreme cold, the wires were stiff and If I left without warming up for at least ten minutes, my car would trip a cam sensor error. It hasn`t happened since I moved down south. IT just looked like the wire was too long and resting on the cooling piping. My only concern is the warm startup problem.

... Come to think of it, with the whole wire issue I had, I wonder if the wire has a clip missing that keeps it away from everything. The kid I bought the car from really gave me several headaches I found out about later, like a crank pully that looked like a fat kid tried eating it... emoji

LOL!

I know what you mean about finding stupid shit that PO's have done. My donor car was all sorts of screwy. I'm glad I didn't buy that thing to drive. Hell, I saved someone else from dealing with that shit.

With the warm start problem I have, could it be either the fuel pump relay or the MFI relay? I don`t get why it has a tough time starting but runs just fine. My entire fuel system has been cleaned out and I even replaced my injectors (found one not flowing right).
