#124939, "help! fuel pump and mfi relays problem"
Apr-03-09 08:12 AM by m7t

I, monday morning when I when to start the car I got no fuel. I realized that my fuel pump was not powered, so I checked the relay and it was ok (70ohms at coil and it kicked when fed from the battery). After some verifications here is the problem, when I turn key on I get 12V between relay terminals 4&6, but as soon as I put someting between the terminals (ex. the relay or a 12v light) the voltage goes down to zero and I get no power from it (the relay doesnt kick or I cannot power a simple LED).

The mfi relay act the same way...

Does someone have an idea about what can cause this?? Can it be an ECU problem?

Thanks!

edit : ok it turns out that the ECU provide a "faque" voltage, but when I start the car i get an effective 9v to the relay (and i can light a DEL). I tested the continuity of the wires and its all good, so the only thing I see would be a bad connection to the relay because the pump still not get power(and the pump is in good working condition)... I will investigate more on this.

edit2: finally I will probably never know what was the problem because now everything works fine...

I have the same problem. My fuel pump works when I put 12 volts to it and I have changed my fuel pump relay but it just wont prime. Would re-wireing the fuel pump solve this?

I figured it out. I guess the wire harnes to the fuel pump was not getting a good connection from taking it off so many times before and the tabs inside weren't connecting. I took the point from my multimeter and bent them up a little plugged it in and it primed rite up.
