#124539, "Timing may be off, IAC code"

watsup guys. i got a problem. after my 98 rs-t blew the motor and locked the tranny, i bought a 95 talon esi. i noticed before i bought it that it had a funky idle. i figured it just needed a tune up. well ive replaced the plugs and wires, but the problem is still there. when it idles it kind of lopes, and it sounds like i have valve tap going on. it only does it at idle though. once i get above 1k rpm, it smoothes out and runs fine, maybe a little too good. before i swapped out batteries it threw a iac code. havent replaced that yet because i want to make sure its not the timing first. what do you think? also, how much do shops usually charge to do the timing? thats something i really dont want to mess with. thanks alot.

I'm confused. You built a pehnominal 2gnt turbo and was hands down pretty fucking quick. You blew it up, never told us about, and bought a 95 esi!?!?! And you did all that work and dont want to put a belt on the talon if you needed, lol? Shops would be like $700 plus around here for a tbelt change as well.

Anywho, sounds to me like a vacuum leak. Frumpy at idle and when throttle is given, the ECU compensates for it. Could also be a faulty IAC, but my run arounds with IAC's is that idle is lopey and usually the engine would shut down or boggle on normal driving.

well... i actually did tell you guys about it back in like november on the turbo forum. it was about the blown valves due to a malfunctioning missing link (my own opinion) and then the possible tranny lock up that i think i have now.

all that needs now to be running again is the guy to come and swap the transmissions, i traded him a green 95 esi that i bought for $500 and blew the head gasket so that he would take the tranny out of another car and come and swap it out in the eclipse, but he keeps on BSn me about doing it.

but anyway, i noticed that on my 95 that i have now, it does seem pretty sluggish until it gets up around 2500-3000rpm, then it has way more power than the eclipse did in the midrange, which is why i was thinking it was the timing. to me it runs like a car that has some street cams or something, but then it threw the iac cel out of nowhere and that kind of messed me up cuz i know the iac will make it cam at idle too if it goes bad. but the timing is just something ive never wanted to mess with and im scared to mess with it because i know if, and probably when i mess up, the motors gone and then im stuck without a running car again.

sorry for the long post. o, ill put up some pics up of my eclipse one day so you guys can check it out. i think i already have some of it with the lambos on the ebay lambo review i posted.
