#12438, "Auto tranny, can't shift into 4th"

Today I was trying to drive on the highway and my car wouldn't shift into the 4th gear, it wouldn't go any faster than 60mph, actually it can go like 65 at 6000rpms but it wouldnt shift into the 4th gear.
Anyone have any type of problem like this?
I just hope it's not my 4th gear damaged or something,
I tried getting the codes, and it said it was the EGR valves
stuck(code 31), but could that possibly cause my tranny to
not shift?
I am guessing that I have to get a new tranny.

I have 75,000 miles, with Star stage I kit,
it seems someone here had their tranny blown around
that mileage too.
Anyways, any help is appreciated.

The chrysler auto tranny on eclipses is designed to lock into a gear (usually 2nd) if anything goes wrong with it. You are supposed to take it to the dealer so they can look at it and reset it for you.

Make sure your overdrive off button isn't stuck. That happened to a friend of mine. Hope you find the problem.

Even with over-drive off you would still be able to go about 100 some.... listen to the first repsonse, he is right.

Did it just starting doing this? I hate to ask the dumbass question, but do you have fluid? In transaxles(or most autos) if not enough pressure is built to open valves in your valve body then the gear won't be applied. In simplier terms, if you got no shit(or enough shit), then shit don't happen. Also check to make sure no wires are severed going around the tranny. Maybe your car was pissed for the day and decided not to work. Happens to me all the time. Makes noises one day and another it doesn't. Try resetting you ECU(not likely to help b/c it doesn't sound like a limp mode condition) and see if it happens again. BTW 4th IS OD. If your OD switch isn't working prop. then you may not see 60 mph. GOD I HATE RED FLUID!

Shit is all apart. Typical...

Ignore 12. Just says that you upplugged your bat. I can't help ya w/ 45. Check to see if anyone near you has a datalogger or at least a decent scanner. Most shops will charge about 50 bones to scan a car. They might make up some shit about everything being wrong w/ the car, a reputable shop won't. Most good scanners have a printable option. Ask to see a printout if you have to pay to get it scanned. Get your money's worth at least. When I HAVE to pay money to shops, I try to ask every question possible. Be a pain-in-the-ass. It's your money, esp when it's major components like trannys and engines at stake.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

65 mph at about 6000 rpms, is actually second gear. So that means it wouldn't shift into third. Third goes up to 120 if you have overdrive off, and then it shifts into fourth.

Since it won't go into third gear, something might be wrong with your tranny so the computer won't let it shift out of second. Or, make sure you didn't accidentally put the shifter into "2" instead of "D". Sometimes it might be something really simple that you forgot about.
