Anyone ever think about putting a lightened flywheel in an A/T Eclipse? The part numbers from the A/T and M/T flywheels on the 95 M/T and the A/T (all years) nonturbos are all the same, and all too heavy. :-D I was just wondering if anyone would know the possibilities of the torque converter mating up with a lightened flywheel, to save some rotational mass.

mainly because they dont make them.. auto's require much more attention than manual's .. mostly upgraded clutches, valve reinforcments, stronger, higher stall speed t/q converters, trans coolers and such ... u are looking at about $3000 right there ... but worth it ...hell yea ... never lift to shift ... lol

well, I was gonna swap a 5 speed in. My dad says it is too costly and would be hard as hell. So, NO. I am gonna just try to build the fizzuck outta my auto when it goes bad.

But I wouldn't be able to use an aftermarket flywheel that is meant for a 5 speed? I know about level10, and I plan on using them to build up my next transmission (AWD Caravan trany... hehehe...), but I wouldn't mind reducing the rotational mass on the crank by 15-20 lbs... :-D

You can't use a lightened flywheel on the auto trans because it doesn't have one. Both manual(modular) and automatic use a flex plate and the clutch or torque converter bolts to that. The flywheel is part of the clutch in a modular set up and the non modular does not use a flexplate. So in the auto there is no flywheel.

mike is correct !! where as the manual's flywheel and clutch are like bonnie and clyde the autos tq converter and clutches are a pair unto their own !!lol
