#123688, "possibly some great valve spring options!!!!"

I've been digging and digging for some great valve springs for a while, and after Bullets finding on the 4G63 springs fitting right in my mental juices started flowing.

Here's what I've got

Crower lists P/N 84176 spring/retainer kit for the 420A, wich utilizes the 68190-16 spring set and the 87084-16 Ti retainer set.

But....!!! they also list the same exact kit for the SRT-4 and PT-Cruiser. Wich means that these are interchangeable!

Here's the link to the catalog:

http://www.crower.com/misc/m_cat.shtml

Great, awesome, most of us know this by now....

Now, on to my possible late night relief to near mental anguish.

All of these kits are meant to be used with stock or stock replacement valves and head specs. So that being said, we now look at spring kits out there for the SRT-4 that are "direct fit" and "require no machine work" and all of a sudden we have all kinds of cool options for dual spring configurations and hopefully something like this:

http://www.slowboyracing.com/sbs/sbr_product.php?productid=5500&cat=673&page=3

I know that the actual valves measure up differently, but the Locks are of similiar size and degree, which is proven by the fact that the retainers are same P/N. So if the head casting is close enough in size, or would only require a small amount of necking around the valve guide base while its at the machine shop, then all should be well.

Maybe somebody already found this out, but I tried searching first and couldn't find anything.

Also, Don't take my word that they will fit. So far this is just an educated guess. When I get home this weekend I'm going to tear off the valve cover on me wifey's SRT-4 and make some comparison measurements inside the head. She's bound to get pissed at me... especially if she wants to leave the house, lol. But I'll just wait till its apart to tell her what I'm up to. emoji

My block is scheduled to be finished the end of Feb. As I move onto the head I'll come back to this and let everybody know how things come out. I already called in the order to my supplier for the ferrea dual kit, so I'm taking a almost $700 gamble here. I do have the option of returning them. But having the option to take the RPM's safely into the mid to high 9K range is worth the gamble for now, this years turbo is gonna need as much as I can throw at it. And having an extra 1500 RPM's of usable power will deffinatly be nice if this all works out.

Creative thinking? Ingenuity? Hell, It's just an obsession!

Maybe look into this too. I guess supertech makes a dual valve spring kit for the 420a too.
