#123608, "Update on motor swap"

Watsup guys, I made the post about possibly blowing my motor on the turbo forum. I finally finished the motor swap and started her up, and well she ran fine. Then I dont know what happened. I let it run until it warmed up and went to back her out for a test drive and as soon as I put it in reverse and eased off of the clutch it cut off. Then, I hit the key, and bam. nothing. the motor wont even turn over. I have no idea what happened or why it happened, im just hoping this motor isnt gone too. any suggestions guys?

Are you getting cranking from the starter?

Did starter fall out, lol?

If dash lights etc work normally then start by looking to see if timing belt is in place. Then see if you can turn motor over by hand, slowly. Don't force it. If you can't turn it in the correct direction, you can turn it slightly in the opposite direction to see if something is binding up. If binding, you gotta start researching where etc. I'm getting to the belt may have jumped for some reason (tension failed/slipped etc.).

If no dash lights etc (or no power to starter for that matter), you have an obvious electrical search.

In general, if the engine cuts out right after a rebuild/swap, its a connector that came loose.

Just jumping off points to work with. Need more info.

Edit: just re-read and you may want to look into the clutch area as well (if all electrical is working OK). Possibly something in the flywheel/clutch making it stick. Again working on limit info

Also, check and make sure that you didn't just kill the motor while backing up and your neutral safety switch isn't loose. That will prevent the motor from turning over.

Thanks alot guys, but unfortunately all the connections are hooked up and the starter is engaging and working properly. i think i just got conned into buying a junk motor. thats two long months of hard work and alot of money gone down the drain.

if it's not firing, it's probably not the engine's fault. did you swap over your sensors or just use ones that were already attatched?

start checking to see if you've got fuel and spark. maybe do a compression check while you're at it. Check the timing. Don't give up and assume that the engine is bad. it may be fine and you just had a cam sensor go bad or your timing slipped far enough to prevent ignition.

well I would do that, but it doesnt turn over at all. its like its completely locked up. even if you put a socket and a breaker bar on the crank it wont budge at all. a buddy of mine threw a idea at me today though. my transmission has been going bad since around september, throw out bearing, and when i did the motor swap, the week or so i was waiting on the other engine, i just had the transmission kind of just hangin out in the engine bay. he said that when i put it in reverse it might have broken something in the tranny and caused it not to let the crank spin over. i did realize that it didnt really feel like it was in gear and i tried probably 8 times to put it in and so i tried it when i thought it finally popped in but im not sure it was really in. im hoping that something broke in the tranny and caused it to lock up the crank. my buddy said that he saw somewhere, maybe dsmtuners, that the tranny locked up the flywheel and caused it not to turn over, so im hoping thats what it is.

So unbolt the flexplate from the flywheel and try to turn the motor over with a ratchet.

if the trans is seized he won't be able to get to the other 3 bolts on the flexplate.

probably gonna have to drop the trans this time
