#123058, "95 nt ecu vs. 97 nt ecu?"

i have a 95 nt and i recently baught a 97 nt parts car, the parts car belonged to a buddy of mine and he told me that one really valuable thing in that car was the ecu, cause he and a programmer spent like 6 or 7 hrs tuning the ecu to perfection so he says, now i know i would have to re wire every thing to put the 97 into the 95, but my question is will it work and why are the ecu's diff from 95 to 97.

It'll work but you have to obtain ecu pinouts for both ecu's and swap/wire the 97 ecu and plug into the 95 harness. Is it worth it? I dont know but i think the 95 ecu's are replaced more than any other year because of problems. And as for your friend saying he programmed it, im pretty sure that's a big load of crap so ignore him.

we are not saying that it wont work by swapping out wires. What we ARE saying is that your friend is feeding you bullshit, unless he paid into the thousands for that programming.

see your ecu connector>? and the 3in bundle of tiny wires? Yes you wouldhave to cut all that off and connect all of the ones on the 97 ONE BY ONE.

why couldn't take all the wiring out and put and use it with the 95 cause dont want cut the shit, arent all the cennection end clips the same, the only thing diff is where the wires plug into the ecus, there fore if i just took the wireing compleatly out then i wouldnt have to cut and reconnect

Nope, from the early years to the 97+ they switched some of the connectors for the sensors and things like the coil pack. Ealrier ones where round pins and the later flat pins.

95 ECUs are completely different from the 96-99s. Different connector, different size, different smog standard, different flash rom, extra pins, missing pins...

CLIFF'S NOTES:
There is absolutely no reason, whatsoever, to bother with trying to make a 1997 ECU work in a 1995 vehicle. Replace a 95 ECU with another 95 ECU only.

BTW I really like the idea of "tuning an ecu to perfection" and dropping it in a different car. Regardless of year, it doesn't work that way. Unless his name is Gary or something

i have a 95 myself and had to replace the ecu three times and on the third transmission. the transmission i have is a 97 tranny and its the same with diffent sensors... same goes for our ecus just like these guys have said its not worth the trouble to put something in that you're really going to find no difference with. just a hassle in my opinion.
